Hey agitators,
I've been a part of the Rising Tide network for over two years now.
I've also had the pleasure of working with many of you in person,
and I've increasingly grown to feel like this is my home. Now, I
need to ask for your help.
I am sending this personal invitation as an organizer with Tar Sands
Blockade. While most of you have probably heard of our campaign, I
wanted to share a couple things you might not know in an effort to
convince you to join us.
Tar Sands Blockade is something I truly believe to be historic and
special. While our first few actions have been highly effective, we
haven't yet been able to demonstrate the true magnitude of
resistance that we'll be bringing to bear in the near future because
of the need for some level of discretion.
So I'm writing to tell you that what we have planned is going to be
big, bold, and effective - bigger and bolder than anything we have
seen in the US climate movement outside of the Pacific Northwest. Recently,
a long-time forest defender from Cascadia told us that "if we
showed them what was going on here, every last Cascadian would
drop what they were doing to come down here and fight". Already
people have been coming from far and wide to join us, based on word
of mouth alone.
I can't give any more details about our plans, but I can promise
that this is something you don't want to miss out on. The most
amazing thing is that we are doing this while centering the stories
of our landowner allies - those who are most directly affected by
the KXL pipeline in Texas.
We need two things from you:
- We need you to come for a short time to participate in one of
our escalating actions. If you are interested, we really
need folks as early as next week, starting on Sept. 17th,
and I encourage you to get in touch with me directly for more
information.
- We need dedicated organizers for the long haul. We have
built an amazing team of nearly 20 folks working 24/7 on the
Blockade, but our goals will require expanding even beyond this
number. If you are in a place in your life that makes this kind of
dedication and flexibility possible, we'd love to add you to our
team. Again, if you are interested, please contact me directly.
As always, anything y'all can do to spread the word, especially to
your local groups, would be invaluable and greatly appreciated.
