I mentioned to a few people that we needed a Software Craftsmen group here in Columbus OH.
Everyone agreed, and we're starting one.

The first meeting will be at 6 pm Monday November 22 at
The Rusty Bucket on 315.

I really wanted to thank everyone at 8th light for inspiring the move.
And wanted to see if anyone starting other groups in other cities had suggestions for the first meeting's topics or discussions other than just the meta discussion about the group itself?

Thanks,
Chris Chandler

We have a group in Hudson, Ohio (http://HudsonSC.com and @HudsonSC on
twitter) that's a little over a year old. The format we've been using
successfully has been this:

6pm-6:30 Lightning Talks by anyone ready with one (10 minutes max, up
to 3). Otherwise jump to open spaces
6:30-7pm Pizza arrives. Open Spaces (we usually split into two groups
for 15 minutes per topic)
7pm-8pm+ Hands-on. We pair up and work on some kata or exercise and
then present a few of the approaches to the group
after - anybody interested (usually half the 20+ attendees) goes to a
nearby bar for drinks and continued discussion

This has worked very well. The group meets the 3rd Wednesday of each
month. It's organized and sponsored by NimblePros (NimblePros.com)
and Henning Software.

Good luck, let us know how it goes!

Steve,

I think we're going to try to model our next meeting on the format
that you described.

Not sure if you're interested in setting up a domain on the
softwarecraftsmanship.org, hudson.softwar... or something like that
you should ping jsu...@8thlight.com about that.
