Average annual income: Taiwan US$16563, Korea US$19921
PPP: Taiwan US$32041, Korea US$23331
Plugging your article into an online translator, it also says:
"but Taiwan and the South Korea each human of average national income
which obtains using the purchasing (PPP) exchange rate computation
respectively is 32,041 US dollar and 23,331 US dollars, this point
Taiwan occupies the very big superiority. Chen Shuibian also stressed
that, end of last year, Taiwan and South Korea's foreign exchange
reserve volume respectively was 266,200,000,000 US dollar and
239,000,000,000 US dollars, the government debt accounts for the GDP
proportion then respectively was 31% and 33.4%, the Taiwan
government's financial situation, was much better than South Korean
Government"
Besides economists use GDP per capita PPP adjusted in most
publications as a more accurate reflection of living standards, which
is why you don't see GDP per capita not adjusted anymore.
Speaking of other other indices, South Korea's ahead in literacy,
probably infrastructure, and in many other indices and has a way
"cooler" feel than Taiwan (Hallyu consequence). Taiwan just
seems....backward. That must be because of China's pernicious
influence. Perhaps if Taiwan is independent like SK its image will
also be less tarnished. Or better yet, apply to be a member of Japan?
But that's not the main point if you think about it. All these indices
show the small gap between Korea and Taiwan, compared with.....say,
Sri Lanka, another island. None of the 4 South Asian countries have
achieved this level of living, consistent with their low IQ (over 20
point gap). Likewise with SE ASian nations which are intermediate
between S Asian nations and NE ASian nations.
