I first tried sophos for mac, when it was first introduced, I loaded
it, fine when I rebooted I had the spinning beachball and my mac was
locked, nothing worked, I had to reboot in safe mode to remove sophos.

Fast forward I thought I would try v/8 sophos again, I loaded the
software, fine, it updated, fine, did a scan, fine. Switched off went
out came back some time later in the day, swithed on my iMac, guess
what the dreaded spinning beachball.....And a locked up iMac.

I do not like being beaten, I would really liked to have used sophos,
any assistance gratefully received.

Cheers

Honestly, I'd ditch Sophos.

Let Sam weigh in with why it's just not worth the CPU handover to run these bolt ons....

I've had the free version on my laptop (MBA current gen) since I bought it last August and update it occasionally. Have only run it twice (once the other day after the trojan scare) and it seems to behave itself.
