Hi everybody!

Today my exhibits stopped working and, after investigating a little bit, I found that the web server where SIMILE web page and code was running is down:

http://simile.mit.edu/

Does anyone know if there is any problem?

Thank you.

In any case much of simile.mit is up only to support legacy sites; you should be migrating all your simile.mit dependencies to simile-widgets.org (which is running on much more robust hardware).

We should probably go thru the documentation and make sure there are no
links to the *.simile.mit.edu any longer in there.

Hello,

Thank you for your answers. I have changed the path from where we are taking the Exhibit libraries and now we download them from simile-widgets.org.

Appart from changing all the references to *.simile.mit.edu in the documentation, I think there are some links that create a little bit of confusion. These are the ones that point to the old wiki (http://simile.mit.edu/wiki/Exhibit) instead of the new one (http://www.simile-widgets.org/wiki/Exhibit). The ones I have found are in these two pages:

http://www.simile-widgets.org/exhibit/
http://code.google.com/p/simile-widgets/wiki/Exhibit

Thank you.

What is the 'new' URL for this:

http://static.simile.mit.edu/timeline/api-2.3.0/timeline-api.js?bundle=true

None of these work:

http://simile-widgets.org/timeline/api-2.3.0/timeline-api.js?bundle=true
http://www.simile-widgets.org/timeline/api-2.3.0/timeline-api.js?bundle=true
http://static.simile-widgets.org/timeline/api-2.3.0/timeline-api.js?bundle=true

Thanks, that works. If I wasn't flying so much outside my experience
envelope I'd have a crack at updating the wiki but I fear I might post
the wrong code.

I'd certainly suggest code example #1 on http://simile-widgets.org/wiki/Timeline_GettingStarted
would benefit from pointing to the new URL.

My thanks again.

Very true, thanks for spotting. I'm fixing it now.

Done.

I also redirected the old wiki from google code to the new ones on
s-w.og/wiki.

Just a quick note that the old URL is all over the place in our
various website and wiki docs...
e.g. http://simile-widgets.org/wiki/How_to_include_the_Exhibit_API
This is going to take awhile to fix, and awhile longer to get everyone
converted.

In the meantime, our sysadmin has warned me that that there is
scheduled maintenance
on the simile.mit.edu server on Saturday, May 22nd, from 5AM until 7AM
(electrical work) so we need to get the word out quickly to migrate to
simile-widgets.org!

I've updated the current s-w.org wiki page
http://www.simile-widgets.org/wiki/Timeline_Releases_and_Access#Access
to use the new reference:

http://api.simile-widgets.org/timeline/2.3.1/timeline-api.js?bundle=true

I also added a note that the URL uses a different release number
(2.3.1) from the current release (2.3.0). I thought it worth recording
as when first asked to use the new URL I assumed the '1' was a typo,
not least as it's a number higher than the current release.

Let's say that we have been less than diligent in keeping the
documentation up-to-date and in synch in various places.... there are
many reasons for this, mostly that David, Ryan and myself all got new
jobs that brought us away from the center of gravity of these widgets,
but this is also why we want to have a diverse community of people that
care so that it is less dependent on a few individuals be present.

If you find other places in the wiki where it's pointing to the old URLs
or is saying things that look wrong, feel free to change them or report
them here.

Thanks for your understanding.

No bother, there's always something more pressing than documentation
<g>.

Something users can fix are the sidebar links at the bottom of this
page:

http://www.simile-widgets.org/timeline/

As the above is the 'landing page' for Timeline,it should link to the
latest documentation. I think links to older version docs, etc should
be moved to the new docs wiki.

In the wiki, the Timeline 'home' page currently lacks obvious links
to:
- the example sites (ideally the 'official' ones and the 'external'
list)
- this group
