Hi,

since I did not find a Shogi recorder/editor for my Pocket PC, I wrote
my own. "Shogiban" was written for Windows Mobile 2003 systems with
VGA screen resolution; it might also work on WM 5.0 platforms with VGA
screens (I simply do not know). I developed Shogiban for my Dell Axim
x50v. It remains to be tested on other platforms.

Here is the main Shogiban page with the download file (CAB file):
http://fhs-consulting.com/shogiban

You can access the Shogiban user manual and FAQs through the main
Shogiban site or navigate directly to
http://fhs-consulting.com/shogiban/manual

Shogiban is postcardware, not freeware; i.e. you need to mail me a
postcard if you download the software. Please read and accept the
"fine print" on the main Shogiban page before you download Shogiban.

The software is still at an early stage, but I believe the current
version (Shogiban v.0.3beta) is ready to be released.

Have fun,

Fred

Hi,

I just released Shogiban v0.6.0, a bugfix replacing all older
versions. You can download the CAB file from:
http://fhs-consulting.com/shogiban/#download

Proceed as if this were an initial installation.
If you have a previous version installed when you tap the CAB file
with the stylus, the Pocket PC OS will tell you so and ask if you
still intend to install this software. Respond by choosing "OK/YES";
and the new version will replace the old one.
To verify that this release was properly installed, start Shogiban and
select "Misc|About Shogiban" from the menu. A popup dialog will tell
you which version is running.

This release addresses the following two bugs:
- Autopromotion was occasionally inconsistent: Pieces were sometimes
internally promoted without the promotion being reflected in the
notation/PSN.
- If a "piece in hand" was dropped while the K was under attack and
this drop did not safeguard the K, Shogiban did not accept the drop
(=intended correct beavior), but the piece disappeared from the
komadai (=bug).

Remember, Shogiban is postcardware.

Regards,

Fred

Sorry about the typo: I meant "...correct behavior...", not
> ... correct beavior ...

Hi,

I made a mistake building (computer term for creating the actual file)
Shogiban v0.6.0.
Therefore I just released Shogiban v0.8 :

http://fhs-consulting.com/shogiban/#download

For details on the upgrade procedure, please refer to the post on
v0.6.

I hope nobody is bothered by these frequent upgrade messages -- I just
feel strongly that everybody should always use the most recent
version.

Regards,

Fred
