I arrived at the accident only seconds after it happened. I was not a witness to the event. At least two British riders were and they stayed behind to give their report on what they saw.

The accident occurred on a downhill, so I doubt he was walking his bike to the other side of the street. This was a really nice downhill for free speed. I was taking my warm clothes off on the climb and waved to him and other cyclists as they passed. He was not asleep. He was smiling and waved back. I remember him because we leap frogged a few times during this section.

I stopped and glanced over at the accident. I didn't know what I was looking at, but when I looked over at a German rider, his face said it all. Riders did what they could to stop traffic and to assemble witnesses and get help ASAP.

I'm not sure what else to say about this event.
