Google Docs Viewer removes watermarks from pdfs?

Does anyone have some insight into what Google is doing to remove watermarks?

For instance, this server applies a watermark to a pdf:

But when you view it through Google's proxy, it's not present:

You can generate these urls from this page:

It seems to use 74.125.178.17 instead of the googlebot ip addresses.
