Was wondering if anyone knew the status of the Shuttle Mission Log DVD's at
Spacecraft Films? I ordered STS-110 last October and have heard nothing
since. Only 109 is advertised on there web-site now, whereas 110 and 111
used to be listed as 'coming soon.' Have they suspened production of the
Mission Logs? I've emailed them a few times with no responce. Project Gemini
also seems to be forever 'coming soon.' :-) Don't mind the wait, just wish
they'd keep us informed.
TIA.

I too am begining to wonder what is going on at Spacecraft Films. I
preordered Apollo 17, and they claimed they would be shipping July 15.
Their site says it is coming soon. A few weeks ago the site said it
would
be shipping July 15, for the preorder people. Since they are hooking up
with Fox Home Entertainment, I really wonder if that is causing delays.
Also on their site they mention the new editions of Apollo 11, The
Mighty
Saturns & Apollo 8. Figures, I just picked all of those titles up
a few months ago. I heard they are trying to come up with an upgrade
path for prior buyers. So, between our experiences, I wonder if we
should start getting angry with them. At the very least they owe
us each an e-mail to let us know what is going on. Perhaps they
themselves don't know.
Sam
Those are damn good points. I have actually pre-ordered the same DVD's as
you have (a loooong time ago...), but haven't heard anything since. It
really raises some questions because all future shuttle logs have
disappeared from their site. They are not mentioned in the catalog, not in
the future products, not in the production notes, and you can no longer
pre-order them. The release date for these used to be continuosly pushed
further, but now there is not a single mention of them, as if they never
existed (which, of course, may be the truth....).
So it would definetely be interesting to know what's going on, or at least
get refunding if those items have been cancelled.
I don't usually like to blame or bash anything or anyone, but truth to be
told, the SpaceCraft Films customer service really sucks.
They haven't sent a single e-mail about any of these delays, or given any
other information.
When I had two bad discs from them (one being STS-109), they kindly promised
to send new ones, but never did that, until I contacted them once more
asking whether or not they are going to send the replacement discs or not.
Eventually, they did arrive, but I don't think this is very good customer
policy...
Actually, I might mail them and ask what's (not) happening. I suggest you
and others do the same. If they receive several mails asking those missing
products, they must somehow provide some additional information. I hope.

Yeah, I want to order Apollo 17 but am reluctant to do so. Going to do as
you suggest and send a 'stern' email. I'll post back here if I get a reply.

My STS109 DVD just doesnt work ( either on PC or on either of two dvd
players )- but ZERO response from them. I REALLY REALLY wanted their
venture to work - but I'm not giving them another $ / £ till I hear news.

I think 110 was first advertised last July/August? How can a 2 hour DVD take
so long to produce?

I'm the same. They are (or appeared to be) making an excellent product.
Don't like to have a go at people but, you're right, at this time they suck.

Think they must be (or were) a very small outfit. Doesn't excuse there
service though. I too have 109 and think it is great. Would be a shame if
the others didn't materialize.

Yep, going to try contacting them again.

FYI, I just received the Project Gemini 3-DVD set in the mail yesterday,
which is cool except for one little detail: ...I never ordered it.
Since I was going to order it soon anyway, I'll be more than happy to pay
for it when the bill arrives (I checked my credit card status - I have been
billed). Several months ago, I ordered and received Apollo 14: the Complete
Downlink, so I know that they have my information in their computers.
What concerns me is that I'll be ordering all of the other complete
downlinks soon, and this does say something for their record-keeping.

...If anyone from Spacecraft Films is still lurking out there, I'd
like one of these surprise gifts as well :-)

I like the product. I hope they are just overwhelmed. But I'm
wondering if something more sinister is at hand with Spacecraft Films.

I have a feeling they got over zealous. I mean first they start by releaing the
Apollo 15 downlink then overnight it seems they are planning to get a large
number of sets out in a couple years.

I ordered A-17 about a month ago, and like you, they hit the
card when you order. When I ordered, their site was saying
"last few days to pre-order". Thinking they were about ready
to stamp out a bunch of DVD's, I ordered. Shortly after that
they were saying they would ship July 15. Now they are saying
simply "July". After reading what you had to say, I am thinking
"Really?".
>I sent a letter in May that got no response. I like the

I have had a much better experience than you. I had two titles
that I ordered, but didn't see for a few weeks. I e-mailed
them and thay at least replied to me. Each time, they were
out of stock, and need to get more DVD's stamped. Based on
what you and others have said, I would have to admit that I
was lucky. They did reply to me. But perhaps the reason
I got a reply is simply because they could give me a good
news answer. Perhaps they don't reply if the answer would be
bad news.

I wonder about that as well. The real pisser for me is the "new
editions"
of Apollo 11, The mighty Saturns I & IB & Apollo 8. All of which
I have already purchaced. I understand that the "new editions" will
have more goodies on them than the ones I just picked up in the
last few months. Looking from the CT point of view, they were busy
beefing up the "new editions" for Fox, rather than worry about the
pre-order stuff for us.
It looks like any future purchace from me will be to go to a
*real* store, and buy there. At least that way, they don't get
the money if there is no product.

ISTR some FTC regulation stating that if a mail order company
can't ship a product in 30 days, you had to be given the option
to either get your money back, or you could give permission
for the mail order company to ship whenever. You may have
a valid FTC complaint here.

I as well find their product to be outstanding. Perhaps that is
why you and I are so upset. We want our goodies. They have
missed a bunch of ship dates. How does Fox play into all of this?
Anyway, for us in North America, we will have to buy additional
titles through Fox. I guess that means store shelves, or perhaps
via the web from Fox. Right now, I don't know. How this is going
to affect buyers in other countries, intersting question.

Well I have ordered it so it must be my copy you have. Just pop it in the
mail for me would you :-)

Sorry to hear that. Keep getting on to 'em.
I had a reply today from Terri Nowlan who is the Office Manager. Apparently
STS-110 will be completed in Autumn. He apologized for the delay. Guess
they're just busy, bitten off more than they can chew.

I had just purchased the Apollo 11 DVD set too and had just received
it when they updated their web page announcing the new editions. I
was a little annoyed. After my first e-mail to them went unanswered,
I sent a second and received "The only thing that has been changed is
the addition of some audio tracks.". Based on their web page I
pointed out that they also added a lot of splashdown and recovery
footage (which I feel is significant) along with the additional audio
and general re-sequencing the DVD to be more logical. Their response
this time was "Mark will be looking into possible upgrading for our
customers, and will let you know as soon as that is decided.".
I'll let you know when I hear from them.
BTW, once you do get the DVD's they are amazing!
