Looks like a fire of some sort (it's about 1900 GMT 29 Aug 2001):

That was (actually, IS; it's still burning) a "controlled burn" of scrubland
up at the north end of KSC. They're designed to prevent wild fires; the
state does it a lot down here.

Thanks for the heads up, Kim. I've just never seen it before...I'm watching
it from what looks like a camera on the perimeter of Pad A. One cloud died
and another rose up...

Oh, duh... didn't realize that was a changing image. When I looked the
first time, all I saw was a setting sun on the horizon.
