South Indian Ocean Basin (W of 135 Deg. E):

Tropical Cyclone 11S: Tropical Cyclone 11S formed near 13S 119E on 28
January. At the end of the summary period it was moving west-southwest with
35 kt winds.

South Pacific Ocean Basin (E of 135 Deg. E):

Tropical Cyclone Celeste (TC-09P): Tropical Cyclone Celeste just east of
the northeast Australian coast near 19S 148E on 26 January. Initially moving
southeast, the cyclone turned east on 27 January as it reached both tropical
storm and hurricane strength. Celeste reached a peak intensity of 70 kt later
that day. Celeste moved east-northeast on 28 January, and at the end of the
summary period it was packing 55 kt winds.

Tropical storm-force winds affected the northeast Australian coast as
Celeste developed. Bowen reported 40 kt sustained winds and a 997.1 mb pres-
sure at 0200 UTC 27 January. The Marion Reef automated station reported 41
kt sustained winds and a 997.6 mb pressure at 0600 UTC 28 January. There are
no reports of damage or casualties at this time.

Tropical Cyclone 10P: Tropical Cyclone 10P formed over the Gulf of
Carpentaria on 28 January. It moved west-southwest and reached a peak inten-

At the end of the summary period, TC-10P was weakening over northwest
Australia.

Centre Island, Australia reported 51 kt sustained winds and a 988.3 mb
pressure at 0800 UTC 28 January. There are no reports of damage or casualties
at this time. The next summary will have details of TC-10P's regeneration
over the Indian Ocean.

(Note: This system crossed the 135E boundary between the South Pacific
and South Indian basins before making landfall. For simplicity I've included
it in the South Pacific basin only.)
