WEEKLY TROPICAL CYCLONE SUMMARY #87: MARCH 28 - APRIL 4, 1993

North Atlantic Basin: No tropical cyclones.

Eastern North Pacific Basin (E of 140 Deg. W): No tropical cyclones.

Central North Pacific Basin (180 Deg. W to 140 Deg. W): No tropical cyclones.

Western North Pacific Basin (W of 180 Deg. W): No tropical cyclones.

North Indian Ocean Basin: No tropical cyclones.

South Indian Ocean Basin (W of 135 Deg. E): No tropical cyclones.

South Pacific Ocean Basin (E of 135 Deg. E):

Tropical Cyclone Prema (TC-23P): At the start of the summary period,
Prema was moving southwest toward the New Hebrides Islands with 80 kt winds.
The storm continued to move southwest through the islands as it reached a
peak intensity of 120 kt the next day. Efate reported a pressure of 985.5 mb
with sustained winds of 40 kt gusting to 68 3-6 hr before the center arrived.
No later data came through while the storm continued. Prema turned southeast
on 30 March as it started weakening, and the storm accelerated southeast the
next day. Prema became extratropical near 25S 177E on 1 April. While no re-
ports of damage or casualties have been recieved, damage almost certainly
occurred in the New Hebrides and New Caledonia.

Tropical Cyclone Jourdanne (TC-24S): Tropical Cyclone Jourdanne formed
near 14S 85E on 3 April. The system turned west-southwest the next day as
it reached hurricane intensity. At the end of the summary period, Jour-
danne was moving west-southwest with 65 kt winds.
