WEEKLY TROPICAL CYCLONE SUMMARY #196 APRIL 30 - MAY 7, 1995

North Atlantic Basin: No tropical cyclones.

Eastern North Pacific Basin (E of 140 Deg. W): No tropical cyclones.

Central North Pacific Basin (180 Deg. W to 140 Deg. W): No tropical cyclones.

Western North Pacific Basin (W of 180 Deg.):

Tropical Storm Chuck: At the start of the summary period, Chuck was drift-
ing west at its peak intensity of 35 kt. Chuck weakened to a depression on 1
May while drifting west, then it turned west-northwest on 2 May. The depress-
ion continued this course until it dissipated near 12N 154E on 4 May.

Although Chuck formed in the Marshall Islands, there are no reports of dam-
age or casualties at this time.

North Indian Ocean Basin:

Tropical Depression: A tropical depression formed over the Bay of Bengal
near 12N 81E on 6 May. It moved northwest and made landfall over eastern
India later that day and weakened to a low pressure area. This low lingered
just inland through the remainder of the summary period. Maximum sustained
winds in this short-lived system were estimated at 25 kt. There are no re-
ports of damage or casualties at this time.

South Indian Ocean Basin (W of 135 Deg. E): No tropical cyclones.

South Pacific Ocean Basin (E of 135 Deg. E): No tropical cyclones.
