AUTHOR'S NOTE: As promised, here is the delayed summary #20. Summary #21
will be published as soon as possible.

WEEKLY TROPICAL CYCLONE SUMMARY #20: DECEMBER 15 - 22, 1991

North Atlantic Basin: No tropical cyclones.

Eastern North Pacific Basin (E of 140 Deg. W): No tropical cyclones.

Central North Pacific Basin (180 Deg. W to 140 Deg. W): No tropical cyclones.

Western North Pacific Basin (W of 180 Deg. W): No tropical cyclones.

North Indian Ocean Basin: No tropical cyclones.

South Indian Ocean Basin (W of 135 Deg. E):

Tropical Cyclone Alexandra (TC-09S): A tropical depression formed near
10S 74E on 19 December. Moving first east-southeast and then southeast, the
system reached tropical storm strength the next day. Alexandra reached
hurricane intensity as it turned south on 21 December. Peak intensity of
105 kt was reached on 22 December at the end of the summary period as
Alexandra turned back to the east-southeast. It should be noted that these
intensity estimates are from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center on Guam.
Intensity estimates from the meteorological services of Mauritius and
Reunion are considerably less.

South Pacific Ocean Basin (E of 135 Deg. E):

Tropical Cyclone Arthur (TC-08P): As mentioned in summary #19, this
storm may be the regeneration of Tropical Cyclone Wasa. At the start of the
summary period, Arthur was moving east-northeast with 45 kt winds. Arthur
weakened to a depression the next day, and it dissipated near 18S 132W on
17 December. There are no reports of damage or casualties from Arthur at
this time, even though it passed through parts of the Tuamotu Archi-
pelago.

Special Note: FSU does not normally recieve reports on tropical cyclones
east of the International Dateline in the South Pacific. Thanks to all of
the people who relayed information on these storms to me, especially the
staff of the National Hurricane Center.
