WEEKLY TROPICAL CYCLONE SUMMARY #227 DECEMBER 3 - 10, 1995

North Atlantic Basin: No tropical cyclones.

Eastern North Pacific Basin (E of 140 Deg. W): No tropical cyclones.

Central North Pacific Basin (180 Deg. W to 140 Deg. W): No tropical cyclones.

Western North Pacific Basin (W of 180 Deg.):

Tropical Depression 33W: This system may be the remains of Tropical De-
pression 32W (Summary #226). Tropical Depression 33W formed near 14N 125E on
4 December. It drifted northeast until it dissipated near 15N 126E the next
day. Maximum winds in this short-lived system were estimated at 30 kt.

Tropical Depression 34W: Tropical Depression 34W formed near 8N 114E on 7
December. The cyclone remained nearly stationary through 9 December, then it
drifted west on 10 December. At the end of the summary period, this system
was at its peak intensity of 30 kt.

North Indian Ocean Basin: No tropical cyclones.

South Indian Ocean Basin (W of 135 Deg. E):

Tropical Cyclone Emma (TC-02S): Tropical Cyclone Emma formed near 11S 96E
on 4 December. Initially drifting west, the system stalled on 6 December near
10S 94E at its peak intensity of 35 kt. Emma resumed a west drift on 7 Decem-
ber only to stall again near 10S 91E the next day. Emma turned east on 9 De-
cember, and at the end of the summary period it was maintaining this track
with 35 kt winds.

Tropical Cyclone Frank (TC-03S): Tropical Cyclone Frank formed near 13S
119E on 7 December. Initially moving south to south-southwest, the system
maintained this track through the end of the summary period. This track
brought the cyclone near the northwest Australian coast on 10 December. Frank
reached hurricane strength on 9 December, and at the end of the summary period
it was at its peak intensity of 115 kt.

Frank brought tropical-storm force winds to the Australian coast. Onslow
reported 42 kt sustained winds at 2200 UTC 10 December, while the automated
station at Thevenard Island reported 40 kt sustained winds at 0400 UTC the
same day. There are no reports of damage or casualties at this time.

South Pacific Ocean Basin (E of 135 Deg. E): No tropical cyclones.
