WEEKLY TROPICAL CYCLONE SUMMARY #205 JULY 2 - 9, 1995

North Atlantic Basin:

Tropical Storm Barry: Tropical Depression Two formed near 31N 71W on 6
July from a non-tropical low pressure system. Initially moving south, the
cyclone turned northeast and reached tropical storm strength the next day.
Barry reached a peak intensity of 50 kt late on 7 July, then maintained 45-50
kt winds through the rest of its life. The storm assumed a north-northeast
track on 8 July and continued this until it moved into eastern Nova Scotia,
Canada, late on 9 July. At the end of the summary period, Barry was losing
tropical characteristics over Nova Scotia.

A Canadian automated station reported 50 kt sustained winds at 80 m
elevation at 1800 UTC 9 July. Buoy 44142 reported a minimum pressure of
996.6 mb at 1300 UTC the same day. The minimum pressure measured by recon-
aissance aircraft was 997 mb on 8 July. There are no reports of damage or
casualties at this time.

Eastern North Pacific Basin (E of 140 Deg. W):

Hurricane Barbara: Tropical Depression 3E formed near 12N 104W on 7 July.
The system was initially moving west-northwest, and this motion continued
through the end of the summary period. The cyclone reached tropical storm
strength on 8 July and hurricane strength on 9 July. At the end of the
summary period, Barbara was packing 75 kt winds.

Central North Pacific Basin (180 Deg. W to 140 Deg. W): No tropical cyclones.

Western North Pacific Basin (W of 180 Deg.): No tropical cyclones.

North Indian Ocean Basin: No tropical cyclones.

South Indian Ocean Basin (W of 135 Deg. E): No tropical cyclones.

South Pacific Ocean Basin (E of 135 Deg. E): No tropical cyclones.
