polar orbiting satellite imagery is now available via the World Wide Web (http
protocol) using Mosaic. This is courtesy of Greg Deuel at the DMSP satellite
archive. It can be retrieved by:

1. Open the Open URL window (under File) in Mosaic, then typing:
http://web.ngdc.noaa.gov.

2. Find the Home Page for the DMSP satellite archive

3. Click on Weekly Updated Items, then click on the dates given on the next
page.

4. The imagery links will be color-coded inside the summary text.

For more information on the imagery and how the digitized summary and
images can be retrieved by ftp, gopher, etc., please contact Greg Deuel

WEEKLY TROPICAL CYCLONE SUMMARY #154 JULY 10-17, 1994

North Atlantic Basin: No tropical cyclones.

Eastern North Pacific Basin (E of 140 Deg. W):

Tropical Storm Daniel: At the start of the summary period, Daniel was
moving west with 55 kt winds. Daniel continued this course and intensity
until it moved into the Central North Pacific near 13N 140W on 11 July.

Hurricane Emilia: Tropical Depression 5E formed near 8N 132E on 16 July.
Moving west, the system reached tropical storm intensity later that day.
Emilia reached hurricane intensity on 17 July before moving west into the
Central North Pacific near 10N 140W with 75 kt winds.

Central North Pacific Basin (180 Deg. W to 140 Deg. W):

Tropical Storm Daniel: Daniel entered the Central North Pacific on 11 July
near 13N 140W with 55 kt winds. Daniel continued west through 13 July while
weakening. It weakened to a depression on 13 July, then it dissipated later
that day near 17N 154W.

Hurricane Emilia: Emilia entered the Central North Pacific near 10N 140W
on 17 July with 75 kt winds. At the end of the summary period, it was con-
tinuing west with 85 kt winds.

Western North Pacific Basin (W of 180 Deg. W):

Typhoon Tim: At the start of the summary period, Tim was over the Taiwan
Straits near the coast of eastern China moving northwest with winds estimated
at 75-115 kt. (There are large discrepancies in the intensity estimates from
the Joint Typhoon Warning Center and the Japanese Meteorological Agency.) Tim
continued northwest into China and dissipated over land on 11 July. Tim
produced 3 deaths and $172 million dollars of damage in China. This is in
addition to the damage on Taiwan noted in the last summary.

Tropical Storm Vanessa: At the start of the summary period, Vanessa was
moving north-northeast through the South China Sea with 45 kt winds. This
turned out to be Vanessa's peak intensity. Vanessa continued north-northeast
on 11 July as it rapidly weakened, and it dissipated later that day near
23N 119W.

Tropical Storm Walt: Tropical Depression 10W formed near 11N 129E on 14
July. Initially moving northwest, the system continued this motion through
15 July. TD-10W turned east-northeast on 16 July as it reached tropical
storm strength. At the end of the summary period, Walt was continuing to
track east-northeast with 60 kt winds.

Tropical Depression: A tropical depression formed near 22N 137E on 17
July. At the end of the summary period, it was moving northeast with 30 kt
winds.

North Indian Ocean Basin: No tropical cyclones.

South Indian Ocean Basin (W of 135 Deg. E): No tropical cyclones.

South Pacific Ocean Basin (E of 135 Deg. E): No tropical cyclones.
