I notice that the plastic on the lead is now quite stiff!
Which of my cleaning compounds would have cause this?

I can't tell you what plastic is used for the lead but I think
someone could make a good guess.
What was the BAC diluted IN? If water, then it is not the
cause.
The propanol can remove surface oils, etc, which might
make the lead a little harder.
What, no insane laughter? You're slipping.

The benzalkonium chloride was diluted in water. Probably 1 to 10 or
so. It is a mild detergent but maybe the propanol removed oils which
were not just on the surface.
Thanks for the info. I like the idea of going back to Nokia as
all i tried to do was clean the thing!

Sorry, folks. I forgot for a moment that hanson's fixation doesn't include an
allowance for satire.
There is no need to obsess about germs to that extreme. Neat organic
solvents are just not appropriate for cleaning household items. It is
most likely the propanol leached the plasticizers out of the thing. In
fact I can't think of any good reason to use solvent or super strong
disinfectants on that. Cleansing wipes you can buy at a grocery store
should have been all you need.
