Hey,

I was wondering if there is any good way to make products that are a package deal (a specific combination of other products that are purchased as a single product presumably for a discount)

I was thinking of just creating my own product type and using signals (like the order_sucess signal) to handle the sale and handle the complexities, but I wanted to first make sure it hasn't already been done (or if there is a better way to do it)

We've talked about doing this type of thing but unfortunately it is not implemented in Satchmo at this time. You should look at the custom product and see how that may or may not meet your needs. I suspect you will have to do some sort of combination of a custom product and signal work to make this possible.
