The actual trek and available campsites (read carefully)

Once everyone has arrived, taken breakfast, food items and common gear we will proceed as one group in line
I will be putting up regular red ribbons along the trail to indicate the way. Keep an eye on these not to miss any diversions in the trail

Level 1(10km, moderate ascent)
From the parking we proceed along flat trail towards the base of the hill
After this there will be a slight ascending rocky jeep track. There are no trees so it will be sunny. No water present until campsite 1 so ensure to carry 2-3 liter of water and use it over the entire distance.
We will follow a walkable trail for around 10km till we reach a temple (campsite 1) which has fresh running water (falls/pool). This should take around 2-3 hours.
Each campsite is indicated with a yellow flag. The time written on the flag is the latest time allowed to proceed to the next campsite. People who reach later then this time should stay at the current campsite as they will not reach the next site on time/before darkness.
There is a nice waterfall/pool near the temple where you can take a quick dip (the only pool along the trail). After that proceed quickly to level 2.
Return to base - trekkers at campsite 1 can start returning to base in morning (avoid sun) or after lunch (ahead of level2/3/4/5)

Level 2 (+1km, steep climb)
Follow a rocky trail to the left side of the pool that gets you above the falls
Follow the stream in the narrow valley upstream climbing over rocks and boulders (no trail) along a fairly steep incline for around 1km
Keep climbing up straight (don't take left/right diversions, follow the red ribbons).
Important - fill up all your water bottles at the place where the water disappears underground
After this be very careful with the consumption of your water (just like in the first stretch). There will be no water at campsite 2. Only when reaching campsite 3 we will find another stream.
Keep climbing up straight until you reach a flat grassy patch on top of the hill with some wooden huts. This is campsite 2.
Those staying at campsite 2 should preserve water for drinking, cooking and trekking back down to campsite 1 the next morning.
There are several nearby viewpoints which can be visited offering beautiful views on the Nagari valley (North)
Return to camp1 - trekkers at campsite 2 can return around 10am (no need to wait for level 3/4/5)

Level 3 (+2km, uphill ascent)
From campsite 2 there is a small, rocky trail that climbs up gradually South for 2km till a big, flat, grassland which is campsite 3
There is running water along this campsite where you can refill your bottles
Important - level 4+5 participants fill up all your water bottles at this stream as there will not be further water until we reach back to this point late night
Return to camp 2 - trekkers at campsite 3 will start the return around 11am

Level 4 (+6km rough terrain, steep climb)
Now the trail will disappear again as we climb further up the mountain. The terrain gets tougher walking through long grass sprinkled with rocks, bushes.
It's around 3km to the peak and 3km back to campsite 3 over difficult terrain. Be aware of this before you decide to join this level.
Level 5 participants will not return the same way.

Level 5 (+8km rough terrain, up/down climbs)
Once we reach the first peak participants can either return back to campsite 3 or proceed further for 4km over several high peaks at the Southern edge of the Nagari range. From the last peak it will be another 4km to reach back to campsite 3 by darkness.

Warming - Safety near deep water

Non-swimmers should be very careful entering the pool near the temple/campsite 1 as part of it is very deep. If you want to swim please bring along a swimming tube with you (available for 75Rs at sport shops). CTC is NOT responsible for any accidents near pools (frequently participants get into trouble as the deep vs. undeep areas in the pools are not clear - come prepared or stay out)

Must carry

1) Good walking shoes & a pair of sandals to move around in streams and the camping site. 2) Small/compact (NOT large) back-pack to carry water, food + following essentials 3) Blanket or Sleeping bag 4) LED torch to get around at night - essential 5) One extra set of clothes to sleep dry at night 6) Sun cap and cream (to protect from sun) 7) Three reusable PET bottles (anything less will get you into trouble due to lack of drinking water in this hot climate) 8) Reusable bowl + spoon + tiffin box 9) Camera, fully charged batteries, memory card – optional 10) Sleeping mat
11) Swimming tube (non-swimmers who want to get into the pools)

Advance payment

Those who have not yet paid as requested last week ;-( ;-( please do so asap.

Those who have a mobile with build-in GPS can take a print out of the attached geo-referenced Google topomap and carry it along during this weekend.

The trail is indicated in yellow. The latitude/longitude on your GPS will allow you to identify your exact position (grid cell) on the map.

After identifying your position try to orientate yourself based on the map -
    topo lines indicate equal altitude
    thick lines are 100m increments
    thin lines are 20m increments

This should allow you to identify the peaks and valleys around you. Do this periodically alongside the trail to become more comfortable in navigation/orientation. We need more navigators within our group.
