Assembly process


1. Report near the organizer for attendance
2. Pay expense - 700Rs regular participant, car driver gets 500Rs refund (1200Rs fuel cost), 400Rs for bike driver (300Rs fuel cost), kids below 12 are free
3. Sign disclaimer form and return to organizer
4. Good swimmers identify themselves and get blue ribbon (organizers will ensure sufficient swimmers are present near deeper pools for additional safety)
5. Car driver - get A4 sticker to be put on back window
6. Get into one of the available cars (5 per car) or bikes (2 per bike)

Route to Nagalapuram


All members coming with car or bike should ensure their vehicles are in good serviced condition and have sufficient fuel (200km round trip) to avoid delays.
Cars/bikes of each assembly point will proceed in group towards Nagalapuram (independent of other pick up points) - drive at comfortable pace (40 in city, 60-70 on highways) and stay together as one group

Overall lead car - Peter - black Toyota Fortuner with yellow flag (no one goes before this)

From TIDEL, towards Madya Kailash, towards Guindy Circle, towards Koyambedu, proceed straight for 20min on outer ring road (Jawaharlal Nehru road), go straight over Padi flyover, pass DRJ hospital, ....


There are 7 major diversions along the route - Peter will deploy a bike or car with red flag near each diversion to guide the vehicles
         1. NH 5 junction - take left before flyover
(proceed straight on NH5 - pass through toll gate)
2. Puthur Highway - take left turn immediately after crossing 200m long bridge (Kortaillayar river)
3. After Periyapalayam Bus Stand - take immediate Left Turn (cross bridge after turning)
4. Uttukottai junction - proceed straight 
5. Pass Nagalapuram and shortly take right (nearly straight angle) from highway 
6. Take left at T junction near Water Dam (proceed on winding small tar road)
7. Take left at village near the Attur dam
Overall sweeper car - Biju - silver Alto with yellow flag (no one goes behind this) will take care of 

Assembly at parking near dam


A few volunteers will be present to manage the parking of the large number of cars and bikes near the dam
Volunteers proceed towards group 1, 2, 3, 4 assembly points (red flags with number 1/2/3/4) corresponding to your registered level 1, 2, 3, 4
Within each group we will distribute the food - pick up your food items and put in your back packs -
  Breakfast - Poori Sabji 
  Lunch  - Rice
  Dinner - Sweet and Salt poli's
  Sunday Breakfast-  Nilgiris bun  3 per head
  Lunch - Chappatis -  4 per head
  Pickles packed shared per 5 heads
  Snacks - 2 glucon Isotonik, 2 apples,  1 Chips Packet, 1 Biscuit Packet

Have your breakfast while the remaining participants of your group arrive.... (20min)
Requesting a few volunteers to carry the tarpaulin sheets required for camping for each group
Briefing will be given by group leads on day proceedings and safety guidelines
Minimize your back pack luggage - drop unnecessary items in cars

Once everyone has arrived, taken food items and breakfast we will proceed as follows
Navigators/leads - Peter/Ela - yellow flag
Group 4 participants (level 4)
Karmu/Alex/Manoj - carrying red flag 4
Group 3 participants
Meena/Susanne/Chitra - carrying red flag 3
Group 2 participants
Biju - carrying red flag 2
Group 1 participants
Sweeper - Bala - carrying red flag 1

No one goes beyond Peter/Ela (global leads)
No one stays behind Bala (global sweeper)
The 4 group leads/flags 1-2-3-4 will proceed at a fixed pace
Participants are free to move ahead of their initial group/flag or drop back to a previous group/flag depending on their comfort level

Anyone from any group reaching the checkpoints below before FLAG X is allowed to proceed further with group X (unless they prefer to stay back)
All participants following behind flag X are strictly not allowed to proceed further with group X in order not to delay the front groups from reaching their campsites on time (before darkness)

checkpoint 1 (pool 2/social trek) - FLAG 2 (someone behind flag 2 becomes part of group 1)
checkpoint 2 (pool 3/campsite 1) - FLAG 2 (someone behind flag 2 becomes part of group 1)
checkpoint 3 (fifth falls, before steep climb) - FLAG 3 (someone behind flag 3 becomes part of group 2)
checkpoint 4 (canal pool/campsite 2) - FLAG 3 (someone behind flag 3 becomes part of group 2)
checkpoint 5 (grass patch/campsite 3) - FLAG 4 (someone behind flag 4 becomes part of group 3)

Always ensure that you have eye contact with the person in front and behind you to ensure continuity of the group and avoid missing the trail
The trail has 5 spots were one might be confused. We will put red flags near the same to guide the participants
  spot where we leave sandy trail and get into the stream
  spot where we climb right above the first pool
  spot where we climb right above second pool
  spot where we climb left above fifth falls
  spot where we climb right below back to valley
  spot where we climb left up from valley to 800m peak

Warming - Safety near deep water


Non-swimmers should not get into the deeper pools along the stream. If you want to enter the pools you should bring along a swimming tube with you (available for 75Rs at sport shops).
Always ensure sufficient good swimmers (blue ribbon) are present near the pool you are about to enter.
CTC is NOT responsible for any accidents near pools (frequently participants get into trouble as the deep vs. undeep areas in the pools are not clear - come prepared or stay out)


Must carry


1) Good walking shoes & a pair of sandals to move around in streams and the camping site. 2) Small/compact (NOT large) back-pack to carry water, food + following essentials 3) Blanket (nights will be warm) or Sleeping bag 4) LED torch to get around at night 5) One extra set of clothes to sleep dry at night 6) Sun cap and cream (to protect from sun) 7) Two sets of reusable PET bottles (can be filled along the stream) 8) Reusable bowl and spoon for dinner (No disposable ones) 9) Camera, fully charged batteries, memory card – optional 10) Sleeping mat
11) Swimming tube (non-swimmers who want to get into the pools)
