Hey all,

My name's Marc and I'm an alco-- wait. Wrong meeting. I'm the CTO of
Mad Mimi, a fairly large and fast growing Rails app. I would love to
meet up with more of the Ruby and Rails communities in Gauteng (and
South Africa in general).

So I met Kenneth on Friday evening and we had a great discussion about
all things Ruby (and a lot of things not Ruby besides). One of the
things we discussed was getting Ruby on Beer up again. Kenneth tells
me that it used to be the first Tuesday of every month, so that would
make it June 1st.

Keen? Not keen? I'll sponsor the first round of beers :)

Ciao,
Marc

Yeah, I had the good fortune of meeting Marc at the other meeting :) We definitely need to get this going again.

I'll get in touch with the elders, lets see what we can do for June 1st.

I'm definitely keen. I could also donate a pizza or two, and maybe do
a short presentation on one of the new features in Rails 3?

I should be able to make it this time round.

Venue?

ps - would like to hear how others are dealing with multiple versions
of Ruby - RVM, Virtualbox, etc, etc

Hey hey

This is sounding awesome so far:

Armand du Plessis: wurfl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WURFL)
Christopher: Rails 3 overview

Then up for general discussion, how everyone is handling the migration to 1.9.x (or alternate implementations) as well as the move to rack (Rails 3, Sinatra 1.0, custom middleware stacks, etc).

Looking forward to it!

Armand, can you furbish us with a google map and the venue details ?

Best

I'm in. Any word on the time and location yet?

Since I'm new, I should probably introduce myself. My business is
http://www.simplepay.co.za - online payroll that doesn't suck (but
that's not the tagline I use on the website) ;) Been coding rails for
2 years, many years of C# / .Net before that. OK, intro over.

Apologies for not replying earlier. We can use our old offices for the next RoB - http://tinyurl.com/agilisto. It's just moved from building 22 - 25 which is closer to the gate for those that's been there before.

See you guys on the 1st.

Cheers,

Armand

Great! Is there a specific time, or is this an all-day event? :P

Hi Guys,

I messed up the venue big time, didn't get the keys in time so when I phoned today the management agent (with the keys) was unavailable...

Can I suggest an emergency venue move to Beach Blanket Bohemia just down the road? On the plus side it'll be more informal and inline with the original RoBs :) (Or that's what I tell myself to get over the venue disaster...)

Any other venue refactoring suggestions welcome?

Kind regards,

Armand

This is fine by me. I'm bringing the projector in any case, if we can find a wall to throw it up against it would be perfect.

For those who don't know where 'down the road' is: http://mzan.si/Iwzy

I'll be there early and will speak to the manager too if needed.

See you all there

I am happy with the changed venue.
This is my first meeting - so I will look for Danie Roux - if he is going to be there.
I will be wearing a Ruby Red Jacket to fit in with the theme ;-)

Cool, will be there. Also invited someone else who confirmed he'll be
there, in case the venue needs a rough indication of numbers.

I'm jumping ship, have to attend a conference call at 6pm, won't be
any good if I leave Pta only at 7 pm.

Enjoy!
