On Tuesday May 23rd at 10:50am His Honour Mayor Wayne Thomson of the City of Niagara Falls will officially "switch on" FallsCam.
FallsCam, a video camera mounted on the top of the Sheraton Fallsview hotel overlooking the majestic Niagara Falls will provide internet surfers a chance to access a live 15 sec MPEG video of the BIG ONE itself.
This project was created to attract the virtual visitor to the Niagara Region.
Estimates suggest that the site can expect over 35 million visits per year, providing a major electronic presence for the Niagara community.
The day of the event will be a real party. The Sheraton Fallsview has turned over its conference facilities for the gala.

Thousands of people will be attending virtually on the big day.
Internet Connect Niagara has three ways for the virtual attendee to get in on the action, all via the internet of course!
a) **Internet Relay Chat (IRC)**
Internet Connect Niagara will be opening an Internet Relay Chat Channel at 10:00am on the day. IRC attendees will be brought into the action via a huge 16 foot video screen.
Simply start up your IRC client and Join #FallsCam.
To be sure everyone is comfortable with IRC Internet Connect Niagara will be running four test runs before the event.

Just like in days of yore, time will be taken to read out email messages from
well wishers. A big screen will be set up to receive email as it comes in.
Please send email to Fall...@niagara.com, either before or during the gala.
c) **Web Site**
Of course the real action will be happening on the FallsCam Web Site. Just
set your Browser to http://FallsCam.niagara.com and enjoy the view.

Any excuse for a party, eh? Any plans to send a PC over the falls in a
barrel? That might be worth the effort to check out. Is it just me or
do I smell P.T. Barnum's rotting corpse? I am confused about why this
got posted anywhere except rec.travel.usa-canada (and that is stretching
it IMHO). Can you say SPAM-lite?
