The "Mutant Outcasts" Famous Covers-style figures from X-Men:
Evolution are being carried by Toys R Us. I found all three today and
snapped them up, and they may well be my favorite FC's to date. Why?
Pure, unmitigated play value combined with some spiff FC design.

Cyclops: Comes in a nice black leatherette outfit with yellow
X-straps, removable visor, civilian sunglasses, civilian outfit,
school-style locker.

Toad: Comes in an incredible silver plastic/fabric mockup of his
'armor over a green and gray bodysuit. Comes with sneakers, civilian
outfit, and school-style locker.

Wolverine: In his modified orange/brown costume from the cartoon, with
pullover fabric mask. Comes with elaborate, Japanese-style "civilian"
outfit and tech-style locker.

This, to me, is what the FC line was meant to be. Sure, it's based on
the cartoon. Sure, the cartoon is kind of crappy. But once you get
past the source material, you get three incredibly solid and
well-designed toys. Wolverine and Cyclops feet are molded shoes that
fit under the superhero costume boots. Both Cyclops' removable visor
and sunglasses fit really securely, and look excellent when seated.
Wolverine's pullover mask works really well, with the only drawback
being the points of his molded hair sticking out from the back. Can't
see it from straight on, but it's there.

The civilian clothes are fairly simple (except for Wolverine's), but
well-designed, and come with hangers that fit in the locker so you can
in fact hang the clothes there. Have I mentioned how cool Toad's
silver armor looks? I mean, it's -chrome- fabric. Head sculpts are
dead on for the animated style.

I'm very, very happy that these weren't limited to tiny orders in
comic shops. They're fabulous toys, and at $15 a piece for doll, two
costumes, and locker, they're a fantastic value. Get 'em.

I picked up Cyclops and Wolverine today at TRU. The dolls are great and so
was the price. I highly recommend these also. I didn't pick up Toad
because he's not one of my favorite characters.

Heh, I'm a semi-completist, in that any FC-style toy I see in a store,
I buy. Missed out on Psylocke, Skull and Carnage because of that, but
on the other hand, I bought all three Action Jacksons.

Anyway, Toad's -shiny-. Mmmm. Shiny.

I think these are GREAT toys as well. Very glad to see them hit TRU--
though it seems as if X:Evo doesn't have a lot of legs at retail, I
would certainly like to see a second series of these figs, if only to
get a Storm.

His X outfit is fantastic. I wish more of the original FCs had been in
that style.

Great stuff!
