Irfans bowling inconsistency is worrisome

It must be especially worrisome that Irfan Pathan is getting a little too
inconsistent with the ball even as he looks a better batsman every day.

Irfan has been going for 8rpo fairly consistently in the recent past.
As you say, his batting is looking very organized and impressive, but
he should remember that he is in the team as strike bowler primarily.
Just looking at him, my analysis is that he is very inaccurate at the
moment. He gets swing, but that is not of much use unless you pitch the
ball in the right places. At the moment, he is bowling one 4 ball every
over, typically either on the legs or wide and short on the off. At his
pace, both these are sure to be dispatched to the fence, and they
usually are. Even when he bowls the right line, his length tends to be
short. I would like him to come in closer to the stumps while
delivering and totally cut out any attempt at "surprising" the batsman
with the shorter one. On these pitches at his pace, that is not a good
tactic, though it did get him wickets on similar wickets in Pakistan
when we toured there. I think batsmen have wisened to the fact that he
tries this tactic early in his spell and are ready with the pull.
Irfan needs to sort out his bowling soon. RP is looking *very*
impressive with the ball - his spells have not only been probing, but
also very economical. RP is also consistently faster. Unless Irfan
works out his accuracy, it will get dicey for him. At the moment, his
batting is saving him, but batting is not what he is in the team for,
nor is it likely that on batting alone he can force his way into the
team.

Veda I think the surprise factor has worn off and he has ended up
becoming a one trick pony for international class batsmen. For some
time he will continue to demolish inferior batting sides but once they
get a hang of him they will prepare for him accordingly and be looking
for that stock delivery that comes back into the right hander. That'll
blunt his threat all that much more especially in light of his reduced
pace of late
Mind you this is happening in limitd overs cricket where the new white
ball tends to do a lot more....at least IMO ....than a brand new red
one. It seems that he will have to bend his back a lot more in the
longer version of the game than he has had to do in ODIs. Bowling with
more effort will result in yet another set of circumstances
He ois smart to have worked on his batting because IMO it has far more
upside than his bowling. This kid has that good hand & eye coordination
