Okay, so what did the members of this newsgroup finally decide upon as the
best stadium in college baseball? After last week's weekly Longhorn vs.
Aggie dispute on this newsgroup, I guess that it has pretty much established
that Texas plays baseball on green concrete and that Texas A&M plays on
mud. But surely there has to be more to their respective stadiums than
just the playing surface. And what about other schools out there? Does
anyone else have any nominees for best stadium in college baseball?

GO CATS!!!!! GO RAINBOWS!!!!!!
How about Mississippi State's Dudy Noble Field; home of the Left Field
Lounge.
ASU's (the name escapes me) is great too but if you play first base (I
did) the sun sets right in your face which makes a left handed dead pull
hitter about as dangerous as anything.

One of the (unbiased) baseball magazines (CB or BA) decided a few years
ago that it was Rainbow Stadium at the University of Hawaii.

(And since the weather is always great, and since they sell beer cheaper
than any bar on the island, I'd have to agree with them.)
I've been to every major college baseball stadium in the west and have to
concur that Rainbow Stadium is the best in the west. The only drawback,
I'd say, is that they need to replace the turf (if they haven't already).
The seams were kind of beginning to show. In the Pac-10, my personal
preference tends towards Evans Diamond at Cal, though I know that
wouldn't be a popular sentiment. I just like how it fits right in the
middle of campus. Sunken Diamond is nice, but I'd even take Dedeaux Field
at USC over it.
I've seen Ole Miss' field on TV and it looks spectacular.

Jeff.
Jeff -
The turf was replaced in the fall of 1994 for the Honolulu Sharks season.
(Hawaii Winter Baseball League). The "warning" track is now just brown
turf vs the old rubber stuff that was bad. From what I've seen, the new surface
is not quite as bouncy as the old one.

Isn't it exactly like Olsen Field, but without the sheep?

(that's what I heard)
I think they've replaced it, but what they need to do is replace it with
GRASS!!!!

... and it's only the third-best field in Mississippi. :-)
#1 Dudy Noble Field at Mississippi State
#2 Smith-Wills Field at Jackson (mostly used by AA Jackson Generals,
but Miss. State, Ole Miss, Jackson State, and USM play there fairly
regularly
#3 Oxford-University (much better than old Swayze)
#4 Pete Taylor Park at Southern Mississippi (4th in the state, very good
quality-wise).
#5 Smokey Harrington Park (used primarily by Hattiesburg, Miss., HS, but
often used by William Carey College, an NAIA school). It was used
for minor league baseball many years ago. It was also used in the
filming of the Satchel Paige TV Movie "Don't Look Back."
