Detail story:
Did IOA on Thursday August 7th thinking MS would be open on Friday
thru the weekend. Heard reports it had been opening at 1pm on a
regular basis and that 3 pods we're being used.
Goto MGM on Friday, in the morning, ride RNR, ToT, go over to Epcot,
do single rider Test Track, then arrive to MS at 1pm.
They have two cast members standing there, with potted plants blocking
the entrance. The guards ask if I have an annual pass, I say no, and
they tell me the ride if for AP people only.
I ask when it will be open again for the GP and they can't answer my
question. So I leave, come back later that night around 6pm, and try
again. Same thing. The CMs top me saying it's AP only.
Oh, and there was no way to sneak around. The entrance was thru the
middle. The side entrance to Test Track was completely blocked, and
the other side was the exit. There we're many CMs standing around
wathcing for people.
I goto guest services asking if I can go on, and when the ride will be
open for everyone, and the girl says they are not told and that I
can't go.
OK, so if they want to be that way, then
MISSION SPACE IS NOT OPEN, AND WON'T OPEN UNTIL AUGUST 15th.
Sheeeess Disney, You really know how to make people mad.
Now, I wouldn't care if they made 1 pod AP only, or even gave them the
express line up to the ride, that was the correct thing to do.
But to completely shut it off from the GP was a joke.
And there we're that many people walking up to the damn thing. A few
here and there. I bet only 1 pod was being used, and it was probably
empty most of the time.
By the time most of you read this, MS may be running again. But don't
get your hopes up. Because as the cast members said...
MISSION SPACE WILL OPEN AUGUST 15th.
I suggest going August 16th

No, and I don't think that would have mattered. The CMs we're like
robots repeating the same lines over and over. So was the girl in
guest services.
Murphies law obviously prevailed. Here I drove up and went to IOA
first thinking MS would be open for the weekend, and look at what
happened. I had no clue they we're doing an AP preview.
I'll get over it because I've driving up with the family August 21-22.
At most places like IOA, the AP holders get a card in the mail, which
gets them into the ride first thing in the morning, like they did with
Shrek.
But they don't go and close the entire ride off to the GP for the
entire day.
If you're a local, go see it. The bushes look like they're set up to
stop an assault, like a road block where you have to go one way, then
back the other to get thru. I mean, the CMs midas well have M-16s
the way they're guarding the ride. I didn't have a camera, but
someone go take a picture of them on Sunday, and then photostop some
guns in the hands of the CMs.
Space will be open to guests on August 4th, just as it was every day before the
1-3rd AP preview days.
It's a soft opening and Disney can chose to open and close it when they want
until the 15th when it's open.
1) Anytime you go to a park with a particular ride on your agenda, make sure
you do your homework and find out if the ride will be open to everyone (or
anyone) that day.
2) With a new ride, anything is possible. Know it. Live it. And set your
expectations accordingly. And never expect a ride that has not officially
opened yet to be open when you get there. All the time prior to an official
opening should be considered "bonus" time, and your mileage definitely will
vary on something like that.
3) Further...with our hobby, considering that weather and mechanical issues
can come up, always be prepared that you may not get to ride a certain ride
on the day you pick. It's happened to me plenty of times. It just comes with
the territory.

It's been open to *everyone* almost daily since the second week in June!
June 3rd was the first Cast Preview- the following week it had a "surprise"
(planned) opening to guests from Monday - Friday 4pm til close. It then began
Mon-Fri 4-9 every week... then picked up weekends, then extended hours from
1p-9p daily. To everyone.
The only times the attraction has NOT been open at least some point in the week
was Aug 1-3 for AP preview, and July 14-16 for Cast Preview.
So what is your arguement???

And people like you, Locoboy and the other CB members are the reason
why the parks screw fans over. It's "the parks don't owe you
anything" attitude that is accepted. This is exactly why parks like
SF close rides, close the entire park when a shower appears, and leave
fans in the dark.
When I told the CM at the entrance it wasn't fair what they did, a
bunch of people agreed with me.
When I told the guest relations person I was going to post this on the
web, a few people standing nearby said good for you.
Of coarse, Evil One come out with the detail facts. Lance also
states he's had the dates posted on his web site for months now. Did
I remember to read that, or did I have exact dates down? No. And
even if I did, a AP preview would tend to make you think it's only for
a few hours. Did anyone put up a post here to remind everyone it
would be AP only? No. Did Disney put anything up on their web site?
I didn't see it.
The impression I got leading up to my visit was the MS was open
everyday, now at 1pm.
Many people we're walking up expecting to get a ride. Why? Because
people they knew had been on it. My wife and daughter have been on
it, two weeks ago.
To the GP, MS is open.
But EPCOT never gave out that impression. It's not listed in the park maps as
open. The official open is two weeks away (and that's the official soft open --
not the officially official open which is in October). If you got that
impression it was strictly from reading the online forums and all of the ones
touting the move -- from Screamscape to Disboards -- are not official yet, they
too, had the AP dates blocked off.
If you're going back in three weeks maybe you should have gone ahead and bought
an annual pass anyway.
But if you're complaining about a ride that has never been communicated as
being opened by the park, publicly, I can only imagine your displeasure if you
were to head out to Cedar Point to ride Dragster or Magic Mountain for X, rides
advertised as open with spotty operating histories.

You don't have to imagine the displeasure about just about everything on this
planet. It's always here on rrc for everyone to read...and laugh at.

Thanks for sticking up for me.
I'm glad my posts entertain everyone.
Gosh, 100 million for a spin and puke machine. They could have built
two MFs for that much money.
Oh well, I'll go back August 21st and get my ride.
And two Dragsters on top of that.
I think Mission Space will go down as a complete failure. And I
suspected it as such. You average family from Iowa is not really
ready to ride an enclosed centrifuge. We all know how well folks
listen to "keep your hands inside the car at all times". Does Disney
really think they will listen to "do not turn your head to the side"?
So he bought an annual pass.
When in Rome.......
Mike
Wonderful.
But I'm from Florida, thus the Play 4 Pass.
$109 + tax = $116 for 4 days at any 4 parks.
I feel like entertaining some more.
I got my monies worth on my last trip.
I'm staying at All Star Movies August 21st, so I decided to check it
out. Of coarse, that meant free parking. Drove up to the guard
shack, flashed my license, my reservation for later this month, and
said "All Star Movies" and the guard said 1 mile on your right. I
said Thank You and went thru. I've done the same thing with out a
reservation a few years ago. Just drive up, flash your license, and
say you're going to an All Star resort, and they'll let you thru.
So I parked, went to MGM on the bus, didn't pay for parking. Came
back later that afternoon. Took a nap in the car, then I was hot.
No problem. Went to the Mighty Ducks Pool at the movies resort.
Low and behold, there's a locker room, complete with shower and soap.
Jackpot.
Load up 3 tall boy Buds wrapped in a towel. Change of cloths. Crash
in a lounge chair, and enjoy the pool.
Went and had dinner in the food court. Fun until I got denied for MS
at Epcot. But whatever, it was a good afternoon getting buzzed at
Disney while not offically staying there.
So you can do the same if you want too.
Just drive up to the guard shack, show them your license, and say
you're going to All Star Movies to check in. If they ask if you have
a reservation, just say No, that you've called in advance and you're
going to check in.
Then you got it. Free parking, Free pool, Free locker room, shower
with soap, food court, everything.
Good!
That they do!
You did all that and you're bitching about not getting to ride MS? You hear
of something called Karma??
Las Vegas called and told them not to let you ride!
Yep, it was rigged.
So, was it open Monday afternoon for the GP?
Anyone go?

$200 million and HP/Compaq paid for the majority (if not all) of it.
Disney in 2003 is pathetically cheap.

I have a couple more since you're all so interested.
I had free breakfast at the Holiday Inn Express at US-27 and I-4 on
the way up. I've stayed there before. Nice breakfast area in the
main building. They have these hot cinnamon buns under heat lamps,
yum.
Hungry at IOA, here's how to get full for $3. I usually get hungry at
11am, and it's a good time to beat the crowd for lunch. Goto the
Burger Digs next to JPRA, and order Frings (onion rings and fries).
Comes in a cup. Dump them into a napkin. There's a condiment bar
that has lettuce, pickles, and tomatoes. Just fill the cup and
you've got a free salad to fill yourself up, along with the fries and
onion rings, plus it's good for you.
I'm not completely cheap, I do buy beers and tip the bar tenders $1
per drink.
I mean, most people who visit a park look for a coupon, or some way to
save money. It's like a challenge to me to find ways to save money,
or get a freebee.
On this trip, I ate at Disney twice $10, spent about $20 at SWF, and
about $10 at IOA.
Oh, and I did leave a $3 tip each day ($6 total) for house keeping, so
there.
$280 million.
Considering that you were just proven wrong about the cost of the attraction,
why should anyone believe you about the percentage paid by Disney?
Well I wouldn't exactly say he was proven wrong...just disagreed with.

You're missing the point. You tried to sneak around and violate park
rules, and probably trespassing laws as well. If you were a member of ACE,
you'd probably be kicked out of the club for that, if somebody reported
you.
I'd imagine that THAT was why Ricky asked if you were a member.

You traveled to a park solely to ride a ride that has NOT officially opened
yet.
And you're mad at the PARK?
Typical.

They did not close the ride. It has not officially opened yet.
If you or anyone else got a ride on it before the official opening, then
they got lucky.
You went to the park with the intention an expectation of riding a ride
that IS NOT OPEN YET. That's YOUR problem and your fault.
It really is as simple as that.

At least you're still entertaining! ;-)

I've skipped it until now. Are you telling me, David, that he hasn't
asked Disney to suck his dick anywhere in this thread? That *is* very
unlike him ;)
