McKay DYMEK DA100 ANTENNA

Does anyone have any experience with this antenna? If so what did you think?
I might
be able to pick one up but don't know much about it. If it matters, I've got
a Grove
PRE-3 preamp, which would be better?

Thanks
Steve

I have one mounted in the attic and find it to be acceptable for shortwave
work, but not great. I also have an old Mosley SWL-7 trap dipole (in the
attic) and it outperforms the Dymek every time. The Dymek picks up a lot
more noise than the dipole (as expected) but it also causes many images of
local AM stations to occur across the lower part of the SW band. I also
expected this to some degree but it is a lot more than I thought it should
be. I can pick up various combinations of our local stations that are strong
and very bothersome with the Dymek and very few images with the trap dipole.

If you have the real estate, I recommend a good outdoor antenna, of the trap
dipole or sloper category. However if you are stuck with mounting your
antennas in the attic, as I am, then the Dymek will produce a decent signal.
If I had to do again, I would put my money into a Wellbrook LA1530 loop
antenna. It I'm nice to the XYL, perhaps she will let me have one.

I've had this antenna mounted both outdoors and in my attic over the years,
and I was always very happy with its performance. I believe WRTH once
called it "the Cadillac of active antennas".

I have six DA100E's on the yard in a MW phased array and like them
fine (combined in ANC-4's). There are indeed some intermod images
of local broadcasters but they're not anywhere that I listen; it's
more a you-can-find-them-if-you-want affair.
