"Spinnin and Grinnin with my "Volks-DX-Radio" the Grundig S350.

This is the proper way of thinking about the Grundig S350; it is a
Hands-On- Radio the by being 'hands-on' brings a Degree of Personal
Envolvement and Enjoyment. The Machine and Human 'relationship' that
creates a 'bond' between the user and the radio. Owners Proadly say
"My Grundig S350"

Like the GE Superadio's the Grundig S350 is the everyday common mans
"Volks-DX-Radio" for simple bedside / nightstand AM/MW Radio DXing.

More DX catches have been made by the tens of thousands of GE
Superadio owners over the years than all the Drake R8-A-B owners.
Simply because of the accumulative number of GE Superadio Listening
Hours and thus the greater chance of catching DX when it happens.

Here is an "Example" of some moderate DX catches with the Grundig S350
as a 'stand-alone' Volks-DX-Radio on 17 March 2003 at 5AM-7AM.

XESURF - 540 AM - Tijuana, BCN
The Great American Sound Book
(These guys used to be KJAZZZ)

KSRK - 540 AM - Carmel, CA
ABC News and Mike Gallager

KOAC - 550 AM - Corvallis, OR
NPR Morning Edition

KUZZ - 550 AM - Bakersfield, CA
Country Music

NOTE: Just the Grundig S350 by it's self no external random wire
antenna or indoor Loop Antenna was used.

IMHO: This is why I call the Grundig S350 the "Next Generation of
Super Radio for the New Millennium" a true Volks-DX-Radio.

To RHF:

The problem with this radio is that
it is a Grundig brand, meaning the
buyer performs quality control.

Universal Radio has to test all
Grundig products before putting
them up for sale due to the Grundig's
very poor quality control.

You noticed that Grove only carries
2 Grundig radios due to this company's
LONG HISTORY of quality problems.

The frequency drift problem is one
that Grundig needs to fix immediately
if it plans to make any money and
keep its retailers happy.

I suspect retailers will get high
return rates on this product, just
like the YB 400 and Sat 800.

That's why I'm not buying the S350,
because I don't want the hassle of
having to return 2 or 3 S350s to
get one decent working radio.

I hate to sound, uh, right wing, but the radio is also manufactured by
Communist China, which I am less than excited about doing business with.

Sounds to me like it wouldn't be hard for a US company to make something
like this, with better Q/A and maybe better front end selectivity..

You must be referring to only MW DX only. I don't think the SuperRadio's
shortwave DX record is very good!!

Agreed. I even hooked the thing up to a 150 ft. longwire and it was
totally deaf. Rip off! Maybe Superradio I was better, huh?

Maybe you weren't aware that the Sony 2010 had quality control
problems for the first few YEARS it was on the market. Yes, it took
Sony YEARS to fix all the problems with the 2010. Also, the very
popular Panasonic RF-2200, being an analog receiver, also has drifting
problems. I was constantly re-tuning my RF-2200.

Universal did NOT check out the Satellit 800 that I purchased from
them - it was in their very first shipment of 800's, and it is a gem.
No problems. My S350 was purchased directly off Eton-Grundig's
website, and it also is a gem.

I have found that once the S350 has been on for half an hour or so, it
seldom drifts. And the sensitivity and selectivity are outstanding
for a receiver in this price range.

The main reason (as far as I have been able to find out directly from
dealers) so many Grundigs are returned, is the HIGH volume of Grundig
sales to those who really don't know what they are buying.

BD,

I have yet to find a Shortwave Band on any of the GE Superadios.
:o) :o) :o) :o) :o) :o) :o) :o) :o) :o) :o) :o) :o) :o) :o) :o)

The GE Superadios were note for being a good Bedside, Kitchen, Office
AM/MW Radio for some basic AM/MW DXing and Quality Sound on FM.
Nothing More and Nothing Less.

There is the 'potential' for the Grundig S350 to be a "Volks-DX-Radio"
for some good basic AM/MW DXing with the addition of Reasonably Good
FM Quality Sound.

The original Volkswagen made in Germany was a great automobile.
With the proper care it would run forever.

Current Volkswagens, made in Mexico, are no different from any
other automobile. Next thing, they are going to start making
them in China. Today VW is just a car, nothing special about it
It takes a long memory for someone to remember what it used to be
and what it once represented.
