Getting to know Cindy McCain

There was an article recently in the Wall Street Journal on Cindy
McCain, John's wife. All I ever saw was this attractive woman standing
beside John. I was surprised how talented and involved with world
problems she is. This is a summary of the article. She graduated from
Southern Cal and was a special-needs teacher.

After her Dad died she became involved with his beer distributing firm
and is now the chairwoman. Sales have doubled since she has taken over
from her father.

They have a marriage prenuptial agreement, her assets remain separate.

She is involved around the world clearing land mines - travels to these
countries on a detonation team and service on their board.

They have a 19 year old serving in Iraq, another son in the Naval
Academy, a daughter recently graduated from Columbia Univ., an adopted
daughter in high school, and a son who is the finance guy at the beer
firm.

Raised kids in Phoenix, Az rather than Washington DC. (better
atmosphere) He commuted.

In 1991, Mrs. McCain came across a girl in an orphanage in Bangladesh.
Mother Teresa implored Mrs. McCain to take the baby with severe cleft
palate. She did so without first telling her husband. The couple adopted
the girl who has had a dozen operations to repair her cleft palate and
other medical problems.

They have a Family Foundation for children's causes.

She's active with "Halo Trust" - to clear land mines, provide water and
food in war ravaged and developing countries.

She will join an overseas mission of "Operation Smile", a charity for
corrective surgery on children's faces. She has had two back surgeries
and became addicted to pain killers. She talks openly about it which she
says is part of the recovery process.

I'm surprised the media is so quiet about her attributes. They have
tired to discredit John McCain because of his wife's wealth looks as if
she knows how to put money and time to use in many good causes. What a
novel thought to have such a fine person as "First Spouse" She sounds
more capable than Hillary or Obama. We would really get two for the
price of one. A person with business and international experience. John
did work for the firm for awhile when he left the Navy. She, however,
has the real business experience. Very interesting.

Damn, that's his wife?! I thought she was his dipper maid! Iz she a
member of the NRA? Hmmmm, seeing her with a gun wearing a bikini would
make me vote republicant. Do you think she would do that?

How Cindy McCain was outed for drug addiction
When an attempt to get tough with a whistleblower backfired in 1994,
the McCain spin machine went into overdrive, and the candidate's wife
confessed to problems the media was already poised to reveal.

- - - - - - - - - - - -
By Amy Silverman

Oct. 18, 1999 | PHOENIX -- GOP presidential candidate John McCain's
wife Cindy took to the airwaves last week, recounting for Jane Pauley
(on "Dateline") and Diane Sawyer (on "Good Morning America") the tale
of her onetime addiction to Percocet and Vicodin,

and the fact that she stole the drugs from her own nonprofit medical
relief organization.

It was a brave and obviously painful thing to do.

It was also vintage McCain media manipulation.

DESERTER

THE STORY OF GEORGE W. BUSH AFTER HE QUIT THE TEXAS AIR NATIONAL GUARD

SUMMARY

An examination of the Bush military files within the context of US
Statutory Law, Department of Defense regulations, and Air Force
policies and procedures of that era lead to a single conclusion:
George W. Bush was considered a deserter by the United States Air
Force.

After Bush quit TXANG, he still had nine months of his six-year
military commitment left to serve. As a result, Bush became a member
of the Air Force Reserves and was transferred to the authority of the
Air Reserve Personnel Center (ARPC) in Denver, Colorado. Because
this was supposed to be a temporary assignment, ARPC had to review
Bush’s records to determine where he should ultimately be assigned.
That examination would have led to three conclusions: That Bush had
“failed to satisfactorily participate” as defined by United States law
and Air Force policy, that TXANG could not account for Bush’s actions
for an entire year, and that Bush’s medical records were not up to
date. Regardless of what actions ARPC contemplated when reviewing
Bush’s records, all options required that Bush be certified as
physically fit to serve, or as unfit to serve. ARPC thus had to
order Bush to get a physical examination, for which Bush did not show
up. ARPC then designated Bush as AWOL and a “non-locatee” (i.e. a
deserter) who had failed to satisfactorily participate in TXANG, and
certified him for immediate induction through his local draft board.
Once the Houston draft board got wind of the situation, strings were
pulled; and documents were generated which directly contradict Air
Force policy, and which were inconsistent with the rest of the records
released by the White House.

your turn Mark, errr at least that's the name you use now.

Horses*t is right. the righties will give MadMac and his wife

i would not vote for him. on the other side of the room- Hil

blow at any time. bill's stick was down home, that got him in.

she has not shown me a thing i could hang a vote on. so, that

leaves me obama. total unknown. so little time at DC. as i don't

believe the right BS , elite crap, i do my own research. i find

vary little to go on this young man. well, this leaves me flat

on my butt. i don't see a leader here among the 3 of them. so,

do i hold my nose, close my eyes and throw a dart? we got trouble

Why would you say that Rush is a dopehead? Yes, it is unfortunate that he got
addicted to pain killers (they were prescribed pain killers) but he apparently had
a good reason.

One thing I will say is that you apparently don't understand neck and or back
troubles with a lot of pain, and, I certainly hope that you never do.

I myself would not wish this crap on even my worst enemy.

Well put...and sad but probably true. Definitely trouble ahead, but
going by your own logic, Obama may be the 'best' choice if only because
he 'had so little time in DC'.

P.S. Rush is indeed the Hindenburg (a Nazi gas bag), but if it is true
he had severe(?) back pain, it is very easy to get addicted to
legitimately prescribed pain meds.

They were prescription pain killers, but they were not prescribed. He
bought them on the black market, quite possibly funding street level
violent crime and/or terrorism.

I have chronic back pain and have never needed to buy 1,000 narcotic
analgesics in front of of a Denny's, with a cigar box full of cash. I
have a pain management clinic who takes good care of me. Has Herr
Limbaugh never heard of corticosteroids? They don't make you deaf.

Only if one has a defective personality. I've been so acute I had to
crawl around on the floor of the clinic, got huge amounts of
hydrocodone, and quit very easily when the time came. I never got high
on the stuff and never abused the privilege of access to narcotics.

Very difficult problem for Employers :

1 - You have an Injured {Disabled} Employee in Pain.
[Does not matter if they were Injured On or Off the Job.]
- They can not be on the Job and Working.
+ They need Medical Help to Heal and Get Well.

2 - That Employee also has a Pain Killer Addiction.
- Should not be at Work related to Work Place Safety Issues.
+ They need Medical Help to Deal with the Pain
and the Addition.

Often #1 can not be 'fixed' and the Employee never 'gets
well' and becomes permanently classified as "Disabled".

Just as often #2 goes undetected and untreated
for far to long.

Slow down guys. i didn't mean to start a firestorm here. Ace, i carry

about 4 oz of steel in my side and back from the war. back then they

gave me codeine. i couldn't stand it. when i had my shoulder repaired

about 3 years ago, they gave me oxy. i took one, and after getting up

off the floor, i flushed the rest. i just can't take anything stronger

than aspirin or tylenal. but, that's just me. the part of rush i didn't

like was the hot air he pushed out about the same thing he was doing.

the man does too much spin for me. when i was at Pitt, he called himself

cristie, or something like that. he DJ-ed a lot of parties for the frats

back when he worked in Pittsburgh. so, i got to meet him, as a lot of the

students did. i don't care about the guy one way or the other. just

don't lie to me. life is too short to worry about the small stuff. we

got big trouble in the land i love, and i don't see things getting

better real soon. people got to see, right or left, they are mostly

the same. we the people- need to do something to change things around

here. and soon. i don't have the answers, and i can't find anyone

in power that does. so, instead of fighting with each other here, lets

try to come up with a direction we follow. i may be too old to fight,

but i can still take to the streets and protest. i still believe in the

Constitution. and i'm tired of people crapping on it. so, please guys,

we need ideas, solutions, not fighting.

just mt take on things.

ObShortwave

I just caught up on some of the podcasts I got from programs I regularly
listen to on Radio Australia. Here's one that seems very appropriate.

The Political Brain", ABC Radio National "All In The Mind" for
November 17, 2007.

<http://www.abc.net.au/rn/allinthemind/stories/2007/2089172.htm>

"...whether these two statements were contradictory. But in any case our
participants didn't disappoint us, the Democrats had no trouble ferreting
out Mr Bush's contradictions, Republicans had no trouble discovering Mr
Kerry's contradictions, they both rated them close to a four. But they
rated their own guy's contradictions at about a two, meaning I don't
see much of a contradiction at all."

"And while they were doing that all those circuits I told you about,
those negative emotion circuits, those conflict circuits, essentially
shut off and what turned on instead were some positive emotion circuits,
reward circuits."

"Anita Barraud: Well that's the thing I don't get, the ventral striatum
that deals with reward and pleasure, putting that in context to political
candidates."

"Drew Westen: Well it is hard to think about political candidates and
pleasure in the same breath, but the way that it sits quite well with
prior research is that there's a good bit of research in political
science showing that if you essentially show people a piece of a debate
where their candidate didn't do very well, they often end up liking their
candidate better. And what our study is essentially showing is the brain
is working overtime to discount all the ways you don't like this guy if
you are committed to him, all the new information that is threatening to
your view of them, and actually there seems to be a rebound effect or an
overdrive effect where not only do you get rid of the negative feelings
but you get a burst of positive feeling for essentially having defended
against information that you didn't want to believe. Interestingly the
ventral striatum and nucleus accumbens, which are related structures
that are involved in reward and were activated in the study, they are
also involved when addicts get their fix. So if you have the term in
Australia 'political junkies', it makes as much sense in Australia as
it does in America."

"Natasha Mitchell: Political junkies don't we know a few of those."

Not only that but he is a world class liar but also a hypocrite. It is
amazing that Windbag talked once about putting all kinds of drug users in
jail. Now why didnt he get the same treatment. as what he said about those
drug heads. Like Jail Time. Sounds pretty hypocritical to me but not unlike
one would suspect out of a blathering piece of filth
