Think of the Yaesu VR-5000 Wideband Receiver as a Scanner

that happens to also cover the Shortwave Bands -but- It is
still by design a Primarily a Scanner and a Scanner type of
Antenna will get you the best Signal Levels for this Radio.

FWIW - Most of the time Larger and Longer Wire type Antennas
will most likely get you RF Signal Front-End Overload.
.
"THE KEY" to all of these WideBand and Scanner type Antennas
is to get them Up-in-the-Air and Out-of-the-Noise :
* 10 Foot above the Roof on a Metal Pole {Mast} that is
'grounded' is good.
* 20 Feet above the Ground and 20 or more Feet away from
the House is very good too. Use a 21 Foot long piece of
Top-Rail with a Ground Rod at it's Base.
