Take a look at the excuses the U.S. feds gave.

I don't know if all of these people really were terrorists or not as
the feds claim, however looking at the reasons the feds gave, I don't
see any way of any legittimate ham radio operator getting out of being
accused and arrested and ruled definitely a terrorist even if you are
a legitimate law-abiding ham. You won't be able to prove you're
innocent.

The same might eventually be said for cbers also. Along with frs.gmrs
users, eventually.

You are a troll and so is the story.. you guys took this crap hook
line and sinker..

This story is bogus, look at the names in the story..."Lucifer
Barrientos"

Who, but in hell is going to name their kid "Lucifer" or even
Ramakrishna Lakshminaramayanan. Google William Roberts and terroist,
not one hit, nothing, nada.

The only place you can find this bogus story is on Usenet.

Actually, there are some Doctor Who books written by a guy whose last
name really is Lucifer.

Lofficer is French for Lucifer.

Yes the story is bogus. I did not notice the date on it until
afterwards.

However it was very plausible since in the past,I have actually
experienced similar catch-22 situations by certain self-appointed
cops who turned out to be hams.

What is it with ham radio that seems to attract all of the self-
appointed radio cops???

CB doesn't seem to attract them.

This isn't anything against all hams

It's just a certain few that seem to give all hams a bad name.

Come to think of it, it's not jst hams. GMRS seems to attract them
also.

It seems like radio services requiring a radio license attracts all of
the self-appointed radio cops.

Oh, not just usenet. What's funny is so many people have responded to the
false story, including yourself and now sad to say, myself. We both just

Correct. Most hams probably are good people but if you just read usenet, you

CB doesn't seem to attract anything around here but three types, drive
time users, truckers, and professional CB'er's with their big amps,
echo mics, roger beeps, noise toys, etc etc etc, so they can ride
around in their vehicles yelling, "NO NAME NO NAME NO NAME", or
"SQUISH SQUISH SQUSIH", or "CB FAGGOT CB FAGGOT CB FAGGOT" or "DAVE
MADE DAVE MADE DAVE MADE", or varibles of such. Quite amusing for
about 10 seconds listening tor grown men acting like a bunch of
morons.

Which is why we call it, at least around my parts, the Children's Band

I'm a ham radio guy, myself, and know how dangerous you guys are!

Seriously, this story really highlights why I was so against the
Patriot Act.

My friends who supported the Patriot Act kept telling me how they
didn't care if the civil rights of terrorists were violated.

But all I could pictures was the mistake of giving unfettered,
complete power to incompetent politicians, government officials,
bureaucrats and poorly educated uniformed enforcement people.

Do you realize that the the terrorist watch list has something like a
million names on it?

How many of those are NOT terrorists? 98%? Maybe higher? I was so
surprised that my conservative friends were not more alarmed about the
abusive powers of government. Just the opposite -- they seemed to
relish in the idea of giving authorities more power over our right to
communicate, travel, associate etc.

There are a Billion Muslims in the World and
-if- Only 1% were Terrorist : That would mean
there should be about 10 Million Names on
the List : So it would appear that we only have
10% of the 'potential' Islam-O-Fascist Terrorist

Good to do the math. I assume that the list is weighted towards
Americans of all stripes and does not draw from the full billion
Muslims.

How many active terrorists are there in the world? I couldn't begin
to guess. I tried to Google it but with no luck?

But, I can't imagine it is anywhere near 10,000,000.

If you count battery-owning ham radio terrorists, the number goes up,
obviously.
