I was at a Radio Shack recently and they had an analog tuning AM/FM table
radio for what I assume is a clearance price of $24.97 I think.
Unfortunately I can't seem to see it or their webpage nor do I have a model
number for it. It has a cube shape and I think there may have been an F
connector for anexternal antenna. I was just hoping to read some reviews on
this to see if it is even worth $25. Anyway, despite my best efforts at
searching I still have not found the model number thus I haven't located any
reviews yet. Does anyway here know the model number or how well it
performs? I am interested in both sensitivity and selectivity.

If it comes from Radio Shack, I'd be suspicious its just a piece of
junk

I'm not familiar with it but Radio Shack sells a lot of moderately
priced radios that do a decent job. A trip back to the radio shack
store would be the best way to get the model number and information on
whether selectivity is adjustable (i doubt it). Indeed for $25.00
you should just buy it and give us a receiver review. If it turns out
to be a dog just return it for a refund.

Most inexpensive AM/FM tabletop radios will do reasonably well on
strong local stations and at night they can be counted on to catch
some of the stronger AM dx stations. Mostly they are designed for
decent sound and not as high performing dx machines.

That's funny. True and funny.

We should start a list of things to help pass on this knowledge to the
coming generations.

I propose adding:

On a better radio, the knob for tuning is larger than for the volume.

I'm sure there are hundreds more, if anyone else would care to add to
the list before passing it on, I've made a perforated attachment below:

Please cut on the dotted line:
......................................................
a) Any weird shaped radio eventually gets collectible.
b) On a better radio, the knob for tuning is larger than for the volume.
......................................................

This part of the message will fall away after the cut unless the monitor
is turned sideways first.

c) Friends don't let friends by radios at Radio Shack.
d) Real radios glow in the dark - for the boatanchor fans
e) On a better radio there is selectable USB/LSB vs SSB with an
adjustment knob
f) Radios made in a Mickey Mouse housing perform accordingly.

I did make it back to Radio Shack this evening and looked at the radio
again. The shelf tag lists it as 120-0204, however, the box itself lists
12-204. It said it is a "Hi-Fidelity Tabletop AM/FM Radio. It is pretty
basic with a very large tuning knob and very small volume control. Another
rotary switch selects between AM, FM, and possibly auxiliary input. This is
a radio only, there is no clock in it. I have tried searching under both
12-204 and 120-0204, but I haven't found much yet. Somebody has one on
Ebay, so at least you can see a photograph of it. When I try searching on
the Radio Shack webpage it seems to be mysteriously absent.

Here is a radio station actually recommending this
http://www.wpculp.net/about/receiver.html

I did not buy one, but I ended up buying a Superadio III on sale until
tomorrow for $39.95 at Mills Fleet Farm. I understand that not all
Superadio III's are created the same. What is the best way for me to tell
if I got a good one?

J&D Schnoor,

The RCA/GE Superadio III is a very good AM/FM Radio.

The only test for whether it is good or not test is to plug it in and
listen. Where did you read that some Super Radio III's are built
differently than others?

Yes, there is some excellent information out there. Isn't there a
Yahoo group too?

The point I was making was that "The only test for whether it is good
or not test is to plug it in and listen." You can't tell in advance
what the problems might be by simply looking at the radio.

All G.E.Superadios are not created equally.I own a G.E.Superadio and the
radio does not say Superadio anywhere on the radio, Model No 7-2880B
I bought the radio at a store, brand spanking new.
From some thingys I have read before, the G.E.Superadios after the first
models are not as good as the radios that preceded them.

I own a little old el cheapo (I think it was manufactured in the 1970s)
made in the Phillipines shirt pocket AM radio (it runs on a nine volt
battery.I bought the radio for one dollar at a Goodwill store a few
years ago) which is really amazing at DXing.Although because of the
tuning situation, it is hard to fine tune between AM stations.
