I was sent this message regarding the bowl.

"If there are 10,000 cber's on the superbowl...
then out of 10,000 only 1,000 can be heard some of the times...
and out of 10,000 only 100 can be heard most of the times....
and out of that 10,000 there are probably only 10 of the most well known
guys that talk on the superbowl and can almost talk skip when they want.....
Do you know that out of that 10, maybe just maybe there are 2 of them on
this newsgroup. They probably have talked to each other as well.
East Coast???? West Coast???
Do you know who they could be???"

This is a great example why the bowl is not for the weak!
Check out those odds.

yawn, what else is necessary to live up these great expectations, a thorough
knowledge of ebonics, perhaps, a tad of policitics, if you know , what i
mean, and a damn good base station with a good beam system, piss on the
mobiles, that just a joke. the real deal is the base stations, that being
said , it should also be said that it would be nice if you were located in a
area that was shall we say , higher up than normal , such as a mountain or
whatever, just my read on the sit, ......icm out.......

You are definitely right ICM. Base stations are the "Real Deal", but
ebonics, politics... maybe, maybe not. Big Thunder-No numbahs, Brass, Old
Man in the Wheelchair, Toll Free and the rest of the southern stations that
are NOT ebonical linguists clean step some of the Afro-American Strappers.
Sometimes just holding a QSO with these fellas on the BOWL is a nice change
of pace. And (by no means of offense) their "Modules" are clean. Let me
tell ya! Sometimes I can't get past Big Daddy Kane, CC and Loverboy, but
when I do, those are the guys that I hear and try to get back to.

137 back out!

BigBamBoo also used to get out here, but doesn't much anymore, unless it is

Other than that, you are right. A lot of them READ the posts, though.

The funny part is someone throws out a bunch of statistics and numbers that
don't have any fact to them and everyone seems to believe them, Just
because you cannot hear someone doesnt mean they arent talking on the bowl
to someone else who you cannot hear. Its a game of condition and postion, If
mother nature doesnt lift her skirt up and allow you to sneak on in I don't
care how long and how strong your station is. You cannot talk to West coast
if conditions arent in your favor you'll be stuck talking to the Bayou,Big
Horn, and the Mag if thats where it is rollin....

don't worry about it , a lot of times people won't talk to you even if they
hear you , it is a political thing, as it is in a lot endeavors in life. but
if you get a big enough station pumping those watts , oh you will be heard
and you will be answered. it is a power trip and if you make it hard on
their ears , they will answer you , but you got to do the job right, or
forget it. i still say a 50,000 watt simulcast of the rush limbaugh show
would do the trick, and be somewhat humorous at the same time. can it be
done. yes it can. will the tube run hot , not if you got it cooled
correctly. just take a tour of your local commercial radio station and see
how its done. just my thoughts on the matter,.......icm out......

431 It is impossible to talk to someone if propagation is not favorable, I
don't care how many watts you may think you have. If you speak to Mean Pill
then the band is not dead . So what you are saying is you can just key up
your radio and talk to Mr.Gunn when ever you like I dont think so.

let's stop talking about the idiosyncracies of channel 6 and get down to it.
now, does this wonderful channel 6 , known affectionately by some as the
superbowl, and others as the toilet bowl, does it need , i say , i say ,
does it need a flushing. i think so. now is it possible for a human to
purchase one of these duzzies produced by henry? i want one of those 25000
watt, 3cx15000 units. How much are they? Christmas is coming up. Anybody
got a grubstake for ole icm? ,........icm out .......

Ask Gunn about the times we have done some fat mouthing at 2:00am with NO
conditions.
Have you ever checked the various bands for DX to find it dead as a door
nail except for the bowl. Talking out of conditions is also done by many of
the superstars. After i got back from Hot Springs last year Gunn and i were
bumping down. After about fifteen minutes the Buck Eye came in. Loud as hell
were these brothers. Gunn let them come in real solid then dropped the maul.
Now Gunn had NO conditions. It was raw power. As i said you can manipulate
the conditions.

well i was going to say that power is power and raw power will get you far ,
conditions or no conditions, speaking of the ionosphere is concerned. now if
you got a big strappin radio setup and the channel is clear, heck, there is
no tellin how far you can talk. even with a little power and no conditions
and a clear channel, a lot of times talking a hundred miles would not be
unheard of. oh the signal would be faint but it would be there and you could
hear it and understand it, but with a lot of power , well , the possbilities
would be endless,........

ray, If you were able to talk it was because you had some type of conditions
plain and simple, not sure where your located either, Now that doesnt mean
they have to be the best of conditions where it is a solid 20-30 db in your
duck pluckin receive, You nor anyone out here can dictate when mother nature
is in your favor, if that is the case I want you to get on there right now
and talk to everyone in all 50 states, you did say you can manipulate
conditions. Most of our longe range communications come from the F-Layer in
the ionsphere this you cannot manipulate, certain times of the day and night
your signal gets absorbed by the ionsphere and the different layers and
your signal never makes it back down to Earth again lending to "No
Conditions" no matter how many watts you have on 11meters

Phil I am well aware of the woodpecker, You are talking about something that
isnt even remotely close. The woodpecker was transmitting on bands that had
conditions to the US at the particular time of day they felt like
jamming/interfering . We are also talking about a RADAR thats what the
woodpecker is with more watts than any cber and probably most of the
regulars on superbowl 6 can muster in there wettest of dreams . You cannot
return a signal back to Earth if the ionsphere absorbs that particular
wavelength Otherwise the bands all would be open 24 hours a day. We would be
able to speak to you daily by just brute force power anytime of the day.It
is impossible to alter the laws of physics Read below about the WoodPecker

From their own homes, many ham radio operators have quietly carried on an
electronic war with the Soviet Union for the last six years and, in some
cases, are winning. Their battle is with a powerful Soviet radar signal
dubbed the "Russian Woodpecker."

The "woodpecker," as it is now almost universally known because of its
unmistakable sound, still disrupts shortwave communications. Its signals
have long since been traced to locations within the Soviet Union.

It is, experts agree, a Soviet over-the-horizon radar system. Radio waves in
what is called the shortwave range, which are actually longer than those in
the VHF or microwave range, are, unlike the others, "bounced" off upper
regions of the Earth's atmosphere and returned to the ground. This is how
you receive faraway foreign stations on your shortwave radio.

The "skip" also is used to get a radar signal over the horizon and back to
detect incoming airplanes.

The Soviets, however, have ignored internationally~accepted rules about what
frequencies can be used by whom, and simply transmitted their
ultra-high-powered radar signals on any frequency where "skip" conditions
are good at the particular time. Their signal also is unusually "wide,"
blocking out a large number of other stations.

"If you want to screw up a radar signal, all you have to do is send a return
signal on its frequency which blocks out the echos. Hams, from the earliest
woodpecker days, have been driving the monster off their bands by getting on
the frequency and sending properly spaced dots back. The screen somewhere in
Russia blanks out and the operators utter some Russian oaths and change the
frequency to get rid of the interference."

It works, too, say many hams who have tried it, although it greatly helps if
several hams in different locations "gang up" on the radar's frequency

On July 4, 1976, the Soviet Union began generating powerful electromagnetic
transmissions, that were dubbed "The Russian Woodpecker" by western ham
radio operators. The Russian signals are primarily pulsed at the very
dangerous 10 Hertz Extreme Low Frequency (ELF). It has remained on the air
more or less continuously ever since. Varying up and down through the
frequencies between 3.26 and 17.54 megahertz, it is pulse-modulated at a
rate of several times a second, so it sounds like a buzz saw or woodpecker.
It was soon traced to an enormous transmitter near Kiev in the Soviet
Ukraine. This transmitter and others like it are believed to be based upon
the original design of Nikola Tesla.

Not necessarily...

Those whom you hear everyday are the bigger stations.

Just because someone hears me one or two days doesn't make me a superstar.

The fact that my station is consistent makes me one of the superstars.

what there saying doesn't mount to a hill of shit. now i know my receive is
excellent , new coax, new antenna, and when i sent the radio to be aligned ,
the receive was done also. and all i hear is 100,000 or more muther fuckers
talking at once. now i might be a lil ol fashioned or maybe even small town,
but why on god's creation would anybody with anything above a second grade
education wanna waste their time trying to wade through that bullshit. hey
thats it ! i'm fuckin outta here.

Where did you find this info?

It therefor must of been it's harmonics which gave us such a problem on

Try telling that to Bluegill.
Now I was always under the impression that Woody changed it's frequency
totally randomly so that 'it' could not be jammed.

Kind of early version of frequency hopping.

The mail on CH 6 has been barn storming in of late but it just sounds
like a hornets nest.

I'll pick out some handles over the next day or so.

Let me know what time of day you guys are on?

CHANNEL 6 AKA The SUPERBOWL is a COMPETITION CHANNEL ONLY!!!!!

DO NOT (I REPEAT) DO NOT GO TO THIS CHANNEL UNLESS YOU ARE PREPARED TO BE
COMPETETIVE!!! THIS CHANNEL IS FOR THE BIG BOYS ONLY!!!!

Phil, I am sure it may have been a form of harmonics, but the point also
being is they changed the frequency when propagation changed and the
woodpecker was pulse width modulated, dirty signal designed to splatter, You
couldnt do this with a am signal. So again My point remains you do not
"especially Cbers" create there own conditions. Yes more power will get you
further than someone withless power. I don't give a flying horsefarm you
don't/can't just key up the radio and talk where ever you want whenever you
want. Even if you are a SuperStar on the Bowl.
Mother Nature will not allow it. People get all juiced up when the sunspot
cycle comes to a head and we hear the guys 30 over/S9 all day long How
about when the Solar flux is at a low Do they key up and make there own
conditions then. Phil Always a pleasure. Listen for me on the Bowl

Hi Jack,

Well I kind of know that (G4ZOW) but, was it 'Big' a few posts ago
stated that it used to operate anywhere between 3 and 17MHz. I'm sure
you remember that even though it seemed strong on one part of the SW
spectrum you could still hear it in the background on whatever frequency
you were listening.

I'll go download all these sites for reading later.

Phil, If you "kinda" know that then you will see that was the one who also
posted the 10 hz frequency as well. I know its early for you but rub the
sleepies out of you eyes and read on.
Again Phil it is a wide signal Ever heard of Nicolia Tesla

This is from my post Phil you have to read all of it not just selected
sentences.Notice the word primary .The signal was alos varied according to
which band was open "propagation wise"

"The Russian signals are primarily pulsed at the very
dangerous 10 Hertz Extreme Low Frequency (ELF). It has remained on the air
more or less continuously ever since. Varying up and down through the
frequencies between 3.26 and 17.54 megahertz, it is pulse-modulated at a
rate of several times a second, so it sounds like a buzz saw or woodpecker."
