Hello All, how can one tell how many actuations have been completed (how
many pictures taken) on a Nikon D70s and a Nikon D200. The numbering
system in the cameras has been reset.

Many thanks, Bill

I haven't, but I will.
Thanks! :-)

Senate Democrats proposed ethics
reform legislation on Tuesday.
It calls for lawmakers to pay the
real cost of corporate jet flights
and the full cost of skybox tickets
for sporting events. If you want
to know ahead of time what's going
to happen to this bill, you simply
need to watch the last five minutes
of Old Yeller.

Does anyone know what the EXIF or IPTC field name is for the shutter
actuation value? I'm shooting a Canon 1D Mark II. I've rolled over
the image numbers (going from 9999 to 0001) ~5-6 times, which means I
have ~50-70k actuations on it. I'd love to know exactly how many
actuations I have. Here are my ExifList results from a recent photo:

Speaking of EXIF data, can someone tell me what the "Native Digest"
field refers to?

Native Digest :

It only seems to appear in .tifs that I have created from the raws,
never in the raws themselves.

I don't know in your Cannon. In the output from exiftool on my
Nikon D70 images, I get a like like this:

======================================================================
Shutter Count : 8652
======================================================================

I don't find a match for that entry in your quoted exif output,
but that may represent a difference between exiftool (on a unix system)
and ExifUtils (on what -- a Windows system?), or it may be that Cannon
does not bother to record this bit of information.

If you could put an original image on a web site somewhere, and
e-mail me the URL I could try running exiftool on it to see what I get.
Note that e-mailing me the actual image won't work, because my mail
server is configured to reject all e-mails 30K or larger -- to keep
viruses out of small mailing lists which I run.

Enjoy,
DoN.

Hi, JC.

Using ExifTool with a sample .cr2 file (from a Rebel XT, apparently),
it's not obvious, but this looks the closest:
FileNumber : 100-0024

Presuming the right 4 digits rollover to increment the left 3 digits,
and it isn't resettable. I've only got the one example handy, and there
are many fields in .CR2 that the tool doesn't seem to decode.

ExifTool is a free Perl command-line utility - it works fine on Windows
with ActivePerl installed (also free, just Google). They have a new
Windows executable, but I can't comment on it.

No, this is the "Folder Number"-"Image Number" and is resettable any
number of times. It's not a good indication of true number of shutter
actuations.
