I bought a VLX600 from a friend a couple weeks ago. I don't really care for
the bike. Just bought it because it was cheap and my friend needed the
money. Anyway. Several years ago my wife and I started a local blessing of
the bikes event. About year 4 we started to get out of it and on year five
we basically turned it over to a local motorcycle shop to run as their pet
event.

I was just out looking at the VLX with an eye towards cleaning it up a
little and removing or adding a few doodads to make it a little more
saleable. and I noticed it has Blessing of the Bikes stickers on it from
three different years. Cool. Now I'm gonna have to take it on at least one
long ride before I sell it.

Watch out for those "Blessing of the Bikes" things. My sister went to
one, got her bike "blessed" (whatever that means) and shortly
thereafter it dumped her off and landed on her leg, breaking the leg
in two places. It took three years to heal and she still limps.

It could be worse; at least she still rides.

I got shunted off my SV650S a couple of days after the blessing of the bikes,
with a busted mirror, a cracked fairing piece and a banged up ankle. But who
knows- maybe I was spared a far worse fate by the way things happened as a
result of that incident. You can certainly use it as a psychological crutch
or starting point for all sorts of rationalizations if you choose to.

I confess I mostly go because I like the pancake breakfast and it's a great
excuse to ride in the St. Croix river valley with friends before and after the
event... and I get a kick out of muttering "it burns!" as the priest sprinkles
the holy water on me and the bike.

Mebbe we need to stop blessing the bike and start blessing the
rider. ;-)

LOL, I have to see this.
At Sunny's place I was drinking a beer, Shiner Bock, and I distinctly
heard her call us to the blessing of the Box. She repeated it and I
figured it was Bocks as I was unused to this brand.
I went up to hold out my beer and asked, "You're blessing the Bocks?"
"Not the Bocks, the bocks." came the response.
"Huh?" I replied.
"Bee, Ahhh, Kay, Eee, Esss. Bocks.
"Oooohhhh."
Fortunately, Blue survived, remained upright and failed to harm any of
its occupants.

And here I thought souls got blessed, not inanimate mechanical
assemblies. :)

That would be a personal belief. History indicates otherwise.
