In an earlier post, someone stated that P. Vunak
was beaten by one of the Gracies. Does anyone have
the details to this fight? Which Gracie did he
fight?

I'm not quite sure if the fight occured but it is a possibility. I
wondered before why people like Vunak does not join the UFC to prove their
claims to fame, I then later read somewhere that Vunak had also studied
with the Gracies and would sorta explain why he would not enter the
tournament. If anyone knows more about it, please post here...

Paul Vunak -DID- fight a Gracie, he took their challenge and went to the
torrance Academy. He was taken down and after a few minutes of being mounted
being tired and was arm-barred.

Goes to show that Vunak might not be as devastating as most people
think he is.

Funny, but Mr. Vunak got the living you_know_what beat out of him when he
challenged an amateur boxer to a fight (striking only). Lets put this
in perspective: I'm not surprised with his loss to the Gracies because
wrestling is not his strong point, but he lost to a small-time boxer in
a _striking_ match. What else is left ? I'm actually very surprised
that Vunak has not entered the UFC... For years, he's been passing
himself off as a "badass", but he's never fought in any organized
competitions (ie:kickboxing etc...). Not that I have anything
against him, but I simply don't buy the image he's created for
himself.

Frank-

I was unaware of Vunak's fight with a boxer, can you provide
details? Also, I was wondering if perhaps the boxer wasn't more skilled than
you gave him credit for. Paul has a reputation for putting his money (or ass)
where his mouth (or skills) are, perhaps he challenged this fighter because
he didn't honestly know if he could beat him. I know that is how he developed
his savate skills. He went out and got beaten up by a savate teacher, and
thought, "hey, maybe there is some value here." so he took it up.
I would appreciate any info on Vunak challenges and fights, regardless
of whether he won or lost.

Vunak was a student at the Torrance Academy. I think after studying
with the Gracies for a while Paul must have realized how easy it is for
a grappler to maintain his range and force his opponent to fight within
that range. Trapping(Vunak's favorite range) is a very hard range to
maintain. It is much easier to hold on and go to the ground than it is to
stand and try to make someone stay in a trapping range. In short, I
think Vunak would loss because the Gracies had are more likely to
acquire their range and maintain it long enough for to finish the
fight, I don't think Vunak can say the same.
