The poker world lost its patriarch at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 16,
when Johnny Moss, "The Grand Old Man of Poker," passed away at Medical

Moss was born May 14, 1907, in Marshall, Texas, and married Vergie Ann
Mouser 19 years later in Dallas. A poker player since his early teens,
Moss is the only three-time World Champion of Poker. He won his World
Series championship titles in 1970, 1971, and 1974. A U.S. Navy Seabees
veteran, he was also a lifetime member of the International Brotherhood
of Elks.

Moss is survived by his wife Vergie; a daughter, Eleoweese Elder of
Odessa; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Graveside
services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 18, at Sunset
Memorial Gardens in Odessa. The family suggests memorials to Medical
Center Hospital.
