At 4 pm today Ann Mette Heindorff's step daughter phoned me with the
sad news that Mette passed away last night. She lost the fight against
a lung cancer.

May she rest in peace.

Thank You for letting us know, Toke.
It is sad news, but at least her suffering has ended.
I think that we shall all miss her here.

A very sad news. RIP.

Fortunately, she left to us her great Slania site, one that will always
remind us of our friend Mette:

Mette was my good friend through 10 years. Strange enough I have never
met her even she was a member of my stamp club in Jutland. She lived
on Seeland.

Many of her web-pages have been "removed" (due to lack of payment to
the provider?) but one can still enjoy most of her great pages here:

So she will always have a warm place in my heart and I am sure, I will

My kindest words are for her husband now.

Let us feel, how I think it is the best way to handle it:

not being sad that she left us, but being very, very happy that she

Bye Mette, You will always have a place here to stay with us.

A terrible news you bring. I will miss the warm and kind words of Mette
and her interesting thoughts. Can you bring over my condolences to her
family?

She will be remembered in her websites, but as you pointed out they are at
great risk of being removed forever. Is there a way of storing it
somewhere else? Of course if her husband agrees...

As many have commented, Mette was a fine person and very constructive.

A couple of years ago she and I agreed to work together to avoid having
great exhibits lost to philately when the owners died and collections were
sold off in pieces. We discovered that there already were two solutions in
place, so we declared victory in our effort and went on to other things.

I'm not sure that Mette's web site material qualifies for Exponet, but
someone who knows the family might see if the survivors would be willing to
have Exponet display the material and see if Exponet would be interested.
The second solution was that some of the major national stamp societies have
archival libraries. At least one is very willing to archive CDs of exhibits
for historical purposes, although I've not asked if they would do it for
non-members. In the case of archival libraries, I doubt that the originator
would have to be a member of the society. And while not an exhibit in the
traditional sense, I'd think Mette's site material would qualify for library
space.

Exponet displays a kind of album pages, as images. It is not what Mette did
with her sites.

An archive of CDs is what it is, just an archive, and not a live site on the
Internet.

The best, IMHO, is to bring all her sites back to the Web. Thanks to some
help that I got from a RCSD participant, I'm trying now to clear up the
things. Will post here the results later, if/when I have any.

I'll try to pass all your kind words and thoughts to Mette's husband -
even I don't think he is on-line - but snail mail can still be used in
Denmark - I think!

I know that Mette has taken care of her husband for some years. She
once told me that he has some kind of handicap (what it is I don't
know).

I think that more people at the moment are visiting the
www.archive.org to save Mette's pages - as you say - just in case.

In 2008 Mette asked the Danish Motif Society if they would host her
pages - and they said yes. She had earlier talked to other collectors
and - also in 2008 when we discussed her pages - she offered them to
my local stamp club (www.aarhusfk.dk) Aarhus where I live. Mette was a
member too. Our board said "no, thank you" because the Danish Motif
Society http://motivsamler.dk/ would like to host the pages. Mette
told me in December 2008 that she had made an agreement about that.

So I think that people download the pages - just in case - but they
will not disappear - for sure.

Maybe there is the possibility that her pages can be preserved more

Hi Jan

If I should host her pages I would have no problem leaving them as
they are. But I will not be involved in the preservation of her web
pages at all.

Unfortunately I'm not sure that any would read Mette's e-mail. As far
as I know her husband is not able to use a computer and her computer
crashed early in 2008 and as far as I know she didn't managed to get a
new one running before she passed away.

Mette's Slania site is in no danger of vanishing. Mette transferred
the site to me almost two years ago with the understanding that I
would continue to maintain it, which I intend to do.

Unfortunately, I do not know if she made similar arrangements for her
other sites. She mentioned to me the possibility of archiving them at
the Danish postal museum in Copenhagen, but I do not know if she
followed through with that.

I know that Mette talked to more people (my stamp club - Mette was a
member too, and our webmaster) to find out what should happen to her
other pages and I know that she made an agreement with the Danish
Motif Society (http://motivsamler.dk/). Her pages will be transferred
to their site in some time.

I can't imagine that the Danish postal museum would host her pages if
she once asked at the museum.

>Gerhard

Dear Gerhard.
I had no knowledge of that (and Mette should of course not keep me
informed about what she had arranged or intended to arrange for her
own pages).

The last e-mail I had from Mette is from 23. August 2008 and in this
or in earlier e-mail she didn't mentioned that she would like her
pages to be stored at the museum. I know that she from that time had
many, many problems with her health also due to the treatment she had.

Sh told me in the phone that her computer gave her some trouble (or
she had not the energy to communicate by e-mail any more) so I talked
to her in the phone instead.

I have known Erik Jensen for more than 30 years (he is my personal
friend) and I have a clear feeling of what he would say if he was
asked to host somebodies pages. He would say "no".

But as you suggested I phoned him (I caught him at home this evening)
a few minutes ago and he said that he remembered that Mette talked
about her pages and he said that she was welcome to submit a CD - but
she never sent it. Anyway the museum could not include them on their
own home page, he told me.

But Mette's pages will be kept and Jørgen Jørgensen, the president of
Danish Thematic Association (DTA) (not "The Danish Motif Society" as I
wrote, sorry) wrote us today:

"I can inform you that I - on behalf of the Danish Thematic
Association (DTA http://motivsamler.dk) - November 2008 agreed with
Ann Mette Heindorff that DTA after her death should host all here
sites with the "family name" heindorffhus.dk".

Very sad news, which I have only just seen.

While I never met her, she had a wide knowledge

It is fitting that the web sites can be maintained and

Hello Toke,

I have beeen deeply shoked by these very bad news ...

We had a lot of things in common like our past experiences in embassies
or her immense knowledge of French language which permitted us to
exchange our thoughts quite frequently by e-mails or by phone.
Especially in bad moments, when she got attacked here and in her mailbox
by some mad man or when she suffered a lot of worries with the very
bad health of her husband, Poul.

Some years ago, we had arranged to finally meet in Paris, but they had
to
come back quickly to Denmark following a new problem in Poul's health.

Over the years, we exchanged tens of mails, letters, small gifts ...
Yesterday, I have been deeply moved by reading again all her personal
e-mails.

She was really a very nice lady, une "grande dame".
I already miss her and I send all my thoughts to Poul.

Hello my Friend Tony,

I had of course the project to send an e-mail to Pierre Albuisson : many

I will try pierre.a...@wanadoo.fr : it may work, coming from

If not, I will contact him by phone or through his snail mail address :

Bonjour Pierre :

Je te remercie, mon ami. I have just counted five separate emails that were
returned to me "undeliverable". Strangely enough, I used that same email
address without problem in 2005 and again in 2007. This time, for some
reason, I just could not get through.

During the development of Mette's site relating to Pierre's engravings there
were many emails exchanged and it was very difficult not to become infected
by Mette's enthusiasm for the project. She approached every project with
full heart and soul. I was sure Pierre would be touched by the knowledge of
her passing. A great loss, a wonderful lady has left us.

Thanks again, Pierre.
