I have noticed flying around that more stuff on the ground is broke and
radios sound like crap
That's completely untrue.
Controllers are leaving by the dozens, but the FAA is not hiring ANYONE.

The FAA is bringing in only a couple hundred a year.
those that replaced them have done an excellent job of putting up with the
FAA bureaucracy.. and now that they have their pension qualifications in
hand.. they too are leaving..
and the hire rate cannot cover the retire rate..

No, the really good controllers stayed.

I'm not a pilot (or in any area of aviation) but I've felt that
the FAA has been going down for some time, along with their leadership.
I'm sure you're aware of some of the friction that has existed between
the FAA and the NTSB over some safety issues. But the PC milksops here
will tell you that this is PROGRESS!

The FAA is in the GOVERNMENT business.
Your paranoia against minorities is not appreciated by those who know
better.

They quit.
You're both wrong. The really good controllers continued working through
1981 and later, and either retired or are still working.
It's not paranoia. It's the truth. Everyone should be forced to work in such
an environment. My husband has worked for a federal agency for the last 29.5
years. Less than a month ago, his boss told him his next hire would be a
minority, "preferably a black female" regardless if that person was
qualified for the position or not. My husband is a PE and the hire would be
an engineer who would be responsible for the design and construction of
structures that could affect the safety of thousands of people. Think about
that and tell me it's paranoia.
In January of 2006, he will be 55 and have his 30 years. He's out the door
if he's not dead from the stress before then. Unfortunately, he will be
leaving an office full of folks who don't have a clue as to what they are
doing. That will be someone else's worry.

Black, Hispanic, or Asian females were also preferred by my former employer. They
counted twice for the minority statistics of the Affirmative Action program.

If a man gets into a fight 3,000 miles away from home, he *had* to have
been looking for it.

And some of the milksops here will tell you there are no quotas.
But some of us know better don't we...

And I wonder how many pilots here would feel really keen on flying
a machine that was designed and built by a group of these quota hires.
Would they be willing to put their butts where their mouths are?

I'm aware of this phenomenon. It's happening all over America.
And people wonder why the U.S. is not the pinnacle it once was.

It is not unheard of to hire a high point minority and have them sit at a
desk doing nothing for 8 hours a day just to make the EEOC numbers look
good. The ultimate is a handicapped minority frmale.
Ideally, one would look for a black female with a hispanic surname who is
confined to a wheelchair.
Mentioning a reverse discrimination lawsuit works wonders.
D. (You didn't hear it from me)
That the FAA is hiring unqualified minorities is not what I'm disputing.
What I'm disputing is that many here pre-judge minorities to be incompetent
while over-looking the fact that there are any number of incompetent white
males in government already. The FAA is hiring incompetence no matter the
color. Why harp on the fact that they are minorities when incompetence comes
in all colors?

This is true for all government agencies however, in my husband's case,
minorities are the preferred hire. Unfortunately, the government doesn't
have incentives or salaries that lure highly qualified engineers of any
color or gender. In many cases, private enterprise gets the cream of the
crop and the government gets the duds.
Why harp on the fact that they are minorities when incompetence comes
> in all colors?
True again. However, an incompent white male can be fired. An incompent
minority employee can not. To work around this issue, the incompent one is
usually promoted out of the area. Most are sent to Washington, D.C.
> D. (Where is the key that opens eyes?)
Our eyes are open. My husband would love to work in an environment where the
job can be done correctly by workers who have some pride in their
performance regardless of their color, sex, religion or natural origin. He
wouldn't care if they were purple people eaters as long as they did their
jobs.
Now, if only our government could follow their own policies and hire folks
regardless of "race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age,
disability, political beliefs, sexual orientation, and marital or family
status."
The weather looks great this weekend, and my little airplane and I are
attending a local fly-in. Lester (my 8E) doesn't know my gender or race, nor
does he care. He will try to test me on landing. It will be my skill (if
available) not my color or gender that will save the day!
This is rich...
Sending the incompetents to Washington.......by popular vote even...
