If you're reading this message, you have probably seen the Zmax
Informercial that keeps hitting the airwaves more frequently now. For
anyone considering the purchase of this product, understand that the
only damage that it will cause is to your bank account.

PRO's and CON's of Zmax:

PRO's
Unlike Slick50, Duralube, and Prolong, Zmax does not contain chlorine
or teflon in it's formula. It will not create carbon build-ups, or
corrode the cylinder walls and other components of the engine. It's a
simple mineral oil, so it cannot damage your investment in any way.

CON's
Your bank account will incur the majority of the damage. The primary
ingredient of Zmax is mineral oil. Nothing revolutionary. Nothing
spectacular. This is something that's been around forever. A good
motor oil provides much more superior lubrication than the mineral oil
formula in Zmax. The price is outrageous for what you get. $30-$40
(depending on vendor) is highway robbery for a set of fancy, clear,
little bottles containing mineral oil that costs pennies purchase from
other companies. A quart of Mobil 1 (Synthetic) costs approximately
$4.00. The synthetic motor oil is far better in protecting your
engine against dry starts than thin mineral oil.

The manufacturer of Zmax claims that the product weeps from your
engine over time. So, replace it every 6 months. Yeah right. It
weeps. It actually never really bonds to the metal. It may absorb,
but once in the metal, the lubrication is minimal since it doesn't
really have the bonding properties of synthetics.

The Zmax infomercial claims that a product for Aviation approved by
the FAA (AVBlend) also uses the same ingredient that is in Zmax
(Linkite), but the commercial fails to state that AVBlend is
manufactured by the same company as Zmax. In otherwords, this FAA
Approved additive is also an informercial type of product with no
extraordinary "miracle" properties.

Is a relabelled bottle of baby oil worth $40? If it gives a sense of
security and performance, sure it's worth it. Is it snake oil?
Absolutely! But, at least it's harmless snake oil, unlike Prolong,
Slick50, or Duralube. Personally, I'll save my $40 for 2 oil changes
instead. At least that way, I'm getting my money's worth.

That's my 2 cents.
