One thing I forgot though was how pathetic the dash illumination is on
a 944. Already wishing for a Flamingeye dash light kit, if I could get
my hands on one... it is not good to be driving around at night
squinting and staring to try to read the gauges. Also need to find out
why I have a nasty vibration right about 80 MPH... I swear one of the
balance shaft belts is off, despite two shops having told me they're
right...
nate
My dash lights burned out years ago. Just keep a cheapie flashlight on
the seat.
Holy shit.
And you ( try to ) lecture ppl about safety ?
I guess you're too cheap to replace the bulbs ? The idea of illuminated
controls is that you don't have to take your hands off the wheel ( to pick up
the falslight ) to read them at night btw.
What do you do ? Drive around holding the flashlight in your mouth ?
Turn yourself in to the police immediately you disgusting criminal dangerous
driver.

IMNSHO, Colorado desperately needs to enact a motor vehicle safety
inspection program. The sooner, the better.

I am very much in agreement with this poast.
And my mustang goes back in soon.... got hit while parked. But the guy is
taking responsibility.
Already have been driving it

I wish he could have hit the 1/4 panel where there is some slight damage
that I did to the car... no.. he hits the undamaged driver's side fender
that was wearing some new paint thanks to the kid who took out the other
fender, hood, and bumper.

The dash lights on the TW would flicker out on me... so I pulled the
dimmer and just jumpered it. Full brightness all the time the headlamps
were on. That may help in your case, or then again, maybe the only
solution is more bulbs back there...
Doesn't surprise me. Just supports the fact that you're the biggest
hypocrite around. Lecture about safety, and you drive a piece of shit
car with bald tires, and no dash lights.
Hell, you're probably driving 20 over the limit, but you're just too
stupid to know it since you can't read your gauges!
here's a pretty good summary of what the problem is:
http://www.flamingeye.co.uk/causeofdimillumination.htm
I've done a "stopgap" by installing 194 bulbs in place of the originals
(slightly higher wattage) and stripping the light guides completely and
covering them with "fake chrome" tape. It works, after a fashion - I
am one of those people who tends to keep my dash lights somewhat dim to
preserve my night vision, I'm OK with it now but some people might say
they're still too dim. The real problem is the inability to find a
completely reflective yet self-adhesive material with which to cover
the light guides. The "fake chrome" tape is still somewhat
translucent; I can see light shining right through it when I look under
the dash. If I can't get an LED kit, I may try aluminum foil and
contact cement, or aluminum foil and some double sided cellophane
tape... ghetto as it sounds, I'm out of any better ideas.
I've been told not to go any higher with the wattage, as that would
tend to melt the cluster. The bulbholders already are a little brown
near the bulb, so that seems like good advice.
nate
Have you considered red bulbs? I understand that the red doesn't
affect night vision near as much as white light.
Why don't you buy white LEDs and solder a small resistor to one of the
legs on each one. There are some pretty powerful LEDs, although they are
a few bucks each, but definitely cheaper than a speeding ticket or an
accident. :-) Or you could try some aluminum flashing behind each bulb...

I have some red LEDs that I tried, even with five small LEDs in place
of each bulb, the overall brightness was less, and I didn't think it
was quite bright enough to be considered easily visible.

What about putting a piece of chromed or polished stainless sheet metal
in? I dunno where to get it, but I know it exists...

Holy shit, you fucking killer! Its amazing that your car even runs with
the way that you maintain it. BTW, I hope some cop sees you doing that
and pulls you over, takes your license and shoves it up your ass and
pulls it out your mouth, you blood guzzling maniac!

Why? NY has an inspection program. Dash lights is not an item they check.
Judy the hypocrite would still continue to drive 55 in the left lane in her
unsafe vehicle.

That's kind of what I'm trying to do, but whatever I use has to be thin
(so I can R&R the gauge panel) and adhesive. Thus thinking of trying
aluminum foil.
I've been in touch with the guy making the LED kits; I can get by with
the fake chrome tape I did this past weekend until he gets his stuff
together, I think. I don't drive the car much anyway since I have a
company car (but I am reluctant to sell it, as it is nice to have a
real car, and besides I'm basically paranoid, should the unthinkable
happen I don't want to be without wheels...)
nate
I would hope that the bald tires alone (to say nothing of tires treaded
with sandpaper) would be enough to fail judy's vehicle. Then there is
the issue of the emergency brake... ;-)

Surely there are more interesting topics than discussing the defects of
car that probably doesn't even exist...

You're reeling in them in left and right with this one; good job. Simply
amazing how many people in this NG people are utterly clueless.
Update: while poking around under the car I noticed that one of the CV
boots was near dead. Also the bolts on that CV were backing out...
hmm. Well I tightened the bolts back up but the vibes did not go away.
Unsolicited plug: I bought a reman axle from raxles.com earlier this
year. When I mentioned to them that I had a boot that did not look to
be long for this world they took it upon themselves to send me a new
axle. I just got a confirmation in my email today. (email was sent to
them Sunday night) Highly recommended!
I am guessing, since I replaced both axles at the same time and the
bolts on the other CV joints were all tight, that that area is the
source of my vibration problem. Now we will see if replacing the axle
makes it go away, or if the cracked boot is unrelated to the vibration
and maybe I have a bad wheel bearing, bent stub axle, other? If any of
those, I am hoping that I can get my insurance co. to pay for it as
that was the quarter that was hit. It did not appear that the
wheel/tire was involved, but you never know... (the quarter was
creased in maybe 6" above the wheel/tire, like the car was backed into
by a large truck/SUV type thing)

It was an SUV that backed into my mustang, the dent goes from the fender
over the wheel to about 5 inches over the wheel.
BTW. your post just made me go and pull the wheel and look around in
there. No damage I can see, but being the front wheel of a rear wheel
drive car it would take a much bigger wack to hurt things.
Even if you did bend your spindle, you'd probably never know unless you
went to get an alignment.
On a hit to the rear of a RWD car, however...
nate
You were reeled in too!
> Even if you did bend your spindle, you'd probably never know unless you

The brakes I have on there would make it clear...
> On a hit to the rear of a RWD car, however...
It took years before I had to replace the wheel bearing on the mav where
the wheel hit a high curb on an icy road... Although that's the reason I
had to replace it eventually.
So your dumb ass drives down the street, flicking a flash light on and
off to make sure you're not exceeding the speed limit?
Oh yeah, that's *REAL* safe driving. Might as well have a cell phone
plastered to your ear, retard.
No wonder the retard got pulled for doing 41 in a 25; the SFB couldn't
tell how fast it was going.
Not that, in Xeton's case, seeing the dashboard is important. It's
posts already indicate it can't tell the difference between "6" & "60",
and has major comprehension issues.
Yeah, but then Aunt Judy would be jumping up and down because it
wouldn't be able to drive to the bath houses. And for sure, with a
micro-dick like Aunt Judy brags about, none of it's buddies will give
it a lift; not worth the effort.

I sceond this poast.
