With all the shows impacted by the writers strike I have to wonder just how
relevant the ratings are at this time.

The impact of the writer's strike really hasn't hit prime time yet. The
Thanksgiving holiday week had more impact on last week's ratings.

Normally, the regular series only show one or two new episodes in December
(sometimes, none), and most primetime shows have that many eps available.
The real impact is going to occur in January, and it will happen even if
the writer settle next week (it will take at least a week to have the first
new script ready, then 8 days or so to shoot, and at least a week in
post-production. If they started on Monday, they could have the first new
episode ready, barely, by January, and they would have to violate DGA rules
to do that (the DGA contract specifies that the shooting script be
furnished to the director at least two weeks before the start of principal
shooting). If they settle immediately, and split the difference on the DGA
lead time provisions, it will take 5 to 6 weeks from a dead start to have
the first episode broadcast-ready, and January is only 6 weeks away.

Good point. Let's see what happens come mid January.

While the writer's strike hasn't really impacted prime time ratings,
it seems to have taken its toll on late night TV.
