THE COLBERT REPORT's "The Word":

WIKIALITY.

If enough people believe something is true ... it is--just like on
Wikipedia.

-- Ken from Chicago (amazed at the immediate turn around)

P.S. Wasn't there some tv show recently where something like that happened,
where posting something online resulted in enough people to believe it and
some kind of spell made it true?

"Colbert presented an example of wikiality by contending the fact that
Africa has more elephants today than it did ten years ago. This then
prompted some Wikipedia editors to begin editing the Wikipedia article
on elephants to reflect that number of elephants in Africa has indeed
increased, thus creating a new fact.

"Although the specific example of edits against the elephants article
may be considered vandalism (and reverted), it illustrates how people
can easily create a modern spin on the aphorism "might makes right", or
put in other terms 'history is written by the victors'."
