Hi, STAR WARS fans!
By now, you will have seen Jason's (tedth...@aol.com) review of
Return of the Jedi Special Edition CD on
http://members.aol.com/tedthebug1/starwars
I hate to start an Internet arguement but there are many things Jason
did not tell you in his review that I am happy to tell you now.
1. If you think you hear something strange (like Darth Vader's
theme) at the 5:16 mark of CD 1, Track 2 (after "Approaching The Death
Star"), don't be alarmed. It is actually the conclusion of the cue for
"Superstructure Chase" (found on CD 2, Track 8). When you put the two
parts of the cue together, they form a cue for which the last section was
to have originally been the opening of "Darth Vader's Death" before it was
re-scored with what you heard in the film. Coincidentally, the re-scored
section is also heard on the CD.
2. There is now another alternate ending for "Han Solo Returns", and
it can be found on
CD 1, Track 5. But this is not what John Williams originally scored for
the film. The original version of the cue can be found on the 4-CD box
set and on the original album. The actual film cue remains unissued.
3. Most of "Luke Confronts Jabba" (CD 1, Track 6) was tracked with
music from "The Dark Side Beckons" (found on CD 2, Track 7).
4. The opening of "The Death of Yoda" (found on CD 1, Track 8) was
tracked in the film with music from "Luke's Nocturnal Visitor" from TESB.
Ironically, the section that was heard in the ROTJ film was itself UNUSED
in TESB!!!
5. Jason tells you that "Obi-Wan's Revelation" (found on CD 1, Track
8) closes with the first rendition of "Luke And Leia"'s theme. Anyone
who's seen ROTJ knows that it is actually an arrangement of "Princess
Leia's Theme" from ANH!
6. The tail ends of "The Emperor Arrives" (found on CD 1, Track 8)
and "Father And Son" (found on CD 2, Track 3) is tracked in the actual
film with the tail end of "Emperor's Throne Room" (CD 2, Track 4).
7. "Superstructure Chase" is presented on CD 2, Track 8 as it is in
the film, but when we come to the end of the Super Star Destroyer
exploding, we have more music that was not used in the film for about 5
seconds before we hear "Darth Vader's Death". In actuality, once we start
"Darth Vader's Death", we've come to the end of only the first minute and
a half or so of this"Superstructure Chase" cue. The conclusion of this
can be found back on CD 1, Track 2 (at the 5:16 mark).
And there you have it. I hope I have not made Jason
(tedth...@aol.com) upset, nor was I attempting to re-write his review,
but those who enjoy the music of STAR WARS are entitled to hear the WHOLE
truth, just as Obi-Wan Kenobi would have told you.
You can E-mail me if you wish. The Force will be with you!!!
Just want to clear something up with all of you. I heard from Jason
(tedth...@aol.com) today and I just want to explain that he left
absolutely nothing out of his review for the ROTJ SE CD. Everything he
had to say he said. All the stuff I told you earlier had nothing to do
with the review at all. It was something entirely different and will be
brought to light later in his STAR WARS soundtrack web page
(http://members.aol.com/tedthebug1/starwars).
I apologize for any mischeif I might have caused all of you and I
want you all to know I had no intention to re-write his review nor did I
have any intention to start an Internet arguement amonsted you.
I have no need or desire to do a STAR WARS Soundtrack Web page of my
own as Jason's page speaks for itself.
May the Force be with all of you!!!
