I can't get my head around this servo-hack thing, how much I try.
I'd like to build a petrol powered wheeled vehicle, have the drive
line parts nearly complete and the only thing holding me back is this
steering servo issue. The more info I find on the web, the harder it
seems to understand (for me, that is).
As I understand the schematics in this topic are based on another
principle?
The contingency plan is to hook the old MAG speed control up to a
wiper motor but this is not the ideal approach as it is not self
centering, a bull in china shop method.
So there we go:
I found a description (I think through a post in this forum, but am
not able to retrieve the post) that explains hacking the S3003 servo.
I get those instructions. Disconnect servo motor, remove mini
capacitators and solder new wires from the servo board.
Clear.
I get the part about the servo potmeter connected to the motor arm for
position feedback.
Now:
- Where do these new wires lead to? Is this the H-Bridge?
- Is there a schematic available for a proper H-bridge that can be
used to operate a 12 V wiper motor?
- How do I hook this all up together?
Any information is appreciated. Or easier methods :-)

OK, found the post:

i recently purchased one of these for a similar project
(http://www.pololu.com/catalog/product/1390) but this large servo contains
one of these (http://www.pololu.com/catalog/product/1392) which if making
your own servo has all you need.
this controller takes rc input and has feedback capabilities that allows
you to make a large servo all you need to conect are power, rc, motor and a
feedback pot connected to the output of the motor.
the price of the controler is not much more than a simple hbridge
controller.

WARNING: I have not personelly performed the following procedure,
attempt at your own risk!
Get the following two items:

1. Connect the two motor outputs of the Lynxmotion board to the PA and
PB inputs on the RobotPower Simple-H board.
2. Mechanically attach a 5K feedback potentiometer on your wiper motor
output shaft.
3. Wire the potentiometer to the Lynx board as shown here

4. Connect the "-" input on the Simple-H board (PWM signal ground) to
the ground of the 5v supply
to the Lynx board (you can tap into the black wire on the yellow,
red, black ribbon cable supplying the Lynx board).
For the following steps refer to page three of the Simple-H product
manual (the "H-Bridge Connection" diagram).

5. Attach the wiper-motor leads to the M1 and M2 connections on the
Simple-H board.
6. Connect your 12v source to the B+ and B- connections on the Simple-
H board.
7. Plug the Lynx board into your R/C receiver.
8. Plug your receiver into a 5v power source.
You know have a high-power jumbo servo!
FYI, the Lynx board is just the circuit board from a Hitec servo. You
can use a board scavenged from any servo.
The Simple-H board is just that, a simple H-bridge. You can configure
your own H-Bridge from discrete components such as 4 D1D40 SSR's.
