Hi Guys,

TLDR: We've found an awesome venue, but its not avaiable until the 9-11 of December. Is that too close to Christmas for you?

Last time Rails Camp was in Adelaide, it was held at a place called Woodhouse (http://www.woodhouse.org.au/).

After looking around, it still seems to be the best place to host it. That venue however only holds around 80 odd people. We can get an additional 80 beds if we book out the Rymill Center (http://www.woodhouse.org.au/accommodation.php?name=rymill_centre), the problem is, its not available until the 9-11 of December.

I'm throwing this out to the community. Is that date too close to Christmas? What do people think? If the consensus is a no, we'll either keep looking, or have to limit the amount of people that can come - which would be sucky for Rails Camps 10th anneversiry.

We looked at a couple of other venues, but alcohol was a bit of a concern with them.

Companies tend to expect projects to be finished by xmas.

January tends to be a quiet time when people are on holidays.

Why not make the 10th RailsCamp in early Jan and give people the option having an extended say? I would totally be up for renting a holiday house with a few RC'er for a few days after the camp finishes.

I'm fine with it, personally (but it's 9th-12th, right?) - but I'm probably a little more evangelical about Rails Camps than most ;)

Especially with some advance warning, I think many people could plan ahead for it. Granted, there's always other things that will come up - so I'd recommend the organisers expect several cancellations.

I'm fine with it personally but it's only a week or so before we shut
up shop for end of year so it might be difficult to make space for it
then.

If that makes sense?

@mike January is far too close to Railscamp NZ which is February and I
already have January holidays planned thus would be out,

But, December should be alright.. hopefully it's far enough away from
Christmas that flights won't be super super expensive yet... though
looking at coming from NZ it costs around $750 anyway.

I'm cool with those dates.
You might not get a full turnout, but 145 people is getting crowded
anyway.

(cc:ing railscamp group - though I'm not sure which is best; I get the impression that (railscamp - rails_oceania).size > 0 && (rails_oceanea - railscamp).size > 0 )

I'm not so sure about December - many places I've worked have a big crunch in December and much slacker times in Jan/Feb. Also quite often places have cycles of leave, training allowances, etc. that are based on the calendar year, and by December it might be harder to get time.  (More often training is based on the financial year, but then Dec or Jan doesn't make a big difference).
