When I come home from a lovely drive in the 2+2, my spouse reminds me of the fact that I smell like 'old car'.
The problem seems to be the exhaust fumes returning in the cabin, because the smell is also present in the boot.
(I know the bootseal is damaged)
Does anyone experience the same ?
What have you done, or what can I do about it?
Any ideas welcome, (except from Antony, who made his 2+2 electric!)

Check the join in the exhaust as it's quite near the gearstick hole. Any
smells from the engine will come through that aswell.

Had this fault on a Stag and its quite possible as it seems squared off rears have a pocket of trapped air, which contains exhaust fumes.
Very important to cure if carrying young people as they are more susceptable to carbon monoxide poisoning than older folk.
Good luck with the fix.
Cheers
Jon

My 2+2's seats are starting to get a bit tatty and the driver's seat base has collapsed. These have been repaired before for that same issue. They currently are Recaro seats which, I think, were originally from a Sierra (I can't be sure as my car was factory built). I have considered getting them repaired and re-upholstered but it seemed sensible to consult this group's hivemind for any other options too. And, yes, the other option I should probably consider is for me to lose a couple of stone so the seat base lasts longer...

I seem to recall reading that at least one of you has some seats with built-in speakers, and/or electric seat-warmers, for example. So I wondered what you've tried, what has worked, and what hasn't. It may help me decide if repairing the ones I have is a better bet than complete replacement.

Many thanks in advance

Matthew

One thing (which may or not be important), is if you want seats that tilt forward easily they'll need to be from a 2 (3) door car.

Ho ho I  fitted a pair of Vectra leather seats to my 2+2 turbo rs  and at Thruxton on a track day it was impossible to sit in them! My passenger and I spent all the time hanging on. So I fitted some Sparco competition seats and a harness too, track days were much more enjoyable thereafter, but I did not remove my inertia belts for the road as harnesses are not much fun.
My other 2+2 which I sold last year was fitted with velour seats from a 16v Escort and were very comfortable indeed being warm in winter and cool in summer.

I 've not done this but saw it on the TV.

If you can smell exhaust gases that might be coming from the engine bay.
Check for a  Exhaust gas leak using a bit of tissue paper, held near to the Exhaust manifold and gasket.
With the engine running.

I hope this helps.
Regards Robert Greig

About the fumes: it is only apparent when top is off, so not coming from inside.Looks like the rear is making too much turbulence, causing low pressure behind the occupants.
So maybe a wind deflector mx5-like can help.
Has anyone fitted a wind deflector?

Fumes from the rear might be cured by charcoal tablets (only joking) Michael
