It is with some sadness to report, that Quantum Mk1 chassis 009 has been stripped of its parts and the shell now being destroyed after being sold on EBay, this was a perfectly road worthy car at point of sale.
There has been a considerable effort behind the scenes to save the shell. However, the purchaser will not work with us and claims that the Quantums are a 'nice' cheap way of getting parts to restore early Fiestas, and that the parts alone will net him more than the purchase price.
We have been able to trace back and find that the purchaser in question has bought other Quantum's for the same reason.
I know my feelings about this,I leave you to make yours.

Unfortunately, he is probably correct, Quantum's would have typically had a
lot less use and have parts in better condition than the remaining Mk1/2
Fiestas around.
So they are a good source of parts.

Can you reveal the ebay ID of the buyer so that at least he could be added
to the blocked seller list of anybody selling a Quantum.

Jim

Sorry, i meant added to a blocked buyer list (yes, you can do this).
Also, Quantum owners might wish to make sure they don't buy from him either.

Quite surprised he would rather destroy the shell than sell it though.
Unless you had a big bonfire I'd have thought it would be hard to dispose
of.

If you want to keep your quantum, don't sell it ;-). If you want to keep other people's then buy them too. Sport to say but that's the way of the world.

Overall he'll be increasing your sale value if there is still desire by making them rarer ;-)

That does sound weird, if he's doing this to make money selling parts, then you'd think he'd sell the shell. Any value in a quantum reg number if you put it back on a fiesta?

That's weird I've got Matthew's note, bit not Eddie's or Jim's via
Googlegroup.
Maybe I'm missing something (some braincells?) but this car sold from
Cardiff on 31 Aug for £900, and then again on 21 Sept in Lancashire for
£206. The second sale looked to be the complete car, and not just the shell.
I'm confused!

Possibly not possible to put it back on the Fiesta, as if it's not a Q reg
it gets noted as not transferable

If you think about it, is it really any different to when most Quantum's
were made.
A donor Fiesta was scrapped (which may have been able to be repaired and
put back on the road) to be a donor for a Quantum.
All he is doing is the opposite, using a Quantum as a donor for a Fiesta.

A shame if you like Quantum's but not really any different.

Most people have no idea what a Quantum is, in view of this I would expect the car to be cloned into another type of kit car to avoid IVA.
I heard on radio2 that there were no prosecutions for vehicle cloning in the entire country last year.
Our Quantums are virtually XR2's which are becoming very sought after as is many 80's cars.
My Dolomite sprint went from about £1500 to difficult to find at less than £5000 in about 2 years.
I now own a tidy 87 Porsche 944 which I bought for peanuts, I wonder if it will rise too?
Just a thought.
