Dear All,

It is learnt that police investigators in Lahore have arrested a man in connection with the cooled blooded murder of journalist Faisal Qurashi, brother of a senior UK-based journalist. The man has confessed to the police that he murdered Faisal over some personal grudge.

Now, the so-called champions of ‘human rights’ who always drag MQM and even sensitive institutions for personal ‘gains’ after each such happening must apology and should understand that MQM and state institutions had nothing to do with the murder of Faisal Qurashi, brother of Shahid Qurashi, Editor The London Post. These ‘champions’ also linked this killing with that of Saleem Shahzad and raised their ‘voice’ for freedom of speech.

According to media reports published on October 8, “One of his brothers, Zahid Ahmed, told police Qureshi had been “receiving threats” from unidentified people over some news reports in his paper. “He was victim of targeted killing. My brother had been murdered because of stories he sent to his paper,” he said, but did not name any group or party thought to be responsible.

But the ground reality is altogether different and even can’t be written on this forum, because Qureshi, “being a bachelor” used to live alone in his family home, and he had many bad guys in his company.

Rightly said by Mr. Ashraf Javed Sb, one of my teachers in practical journalism, in connection with the findings of SP CIA regarding killing of Faisal Qureshi but now the so-called ‘human rights wings’ will start blaming you sir considering you as the media practitioner having soft corner for the MQM. Although, each journalist has right to have his liking and disliking, but the topic you have discussed is the moment for us to file stories, based on facts, without showing any prejudice or biased opinions.

As media men, we are the torchbearers for the entire society. The society itself is blind before various aspects of any incident/event are placed in front of them by us. Whatever the circumstances may be, anyone feels happiness or annoys by our news stories, we should ‘play’ on facts.

Coming to the aforementioned point, God May Bless the departed soul regardless his worldly involvements, either they were positive or negative!

This post and the comments from MQM leaders and others show as it is a
typical campaign to hide a crime. Just see what the CPJ report says
about this case: http://cpj.org/blog/2011/10/from-karachi-to-new-york-a-tale-of-fear-loss-and-h.php

Murderer of British journalist arrested

LAHORE - CIA Police arrested a person who they claimed had murdered a British newspaper’s, The London Times, journalist. The accused happened to be fast friends with the victim, Faisal Qureshi. Faisal was murdered at midnight on October 7, in mysterious conditions at his residence in Johar Town. Local police had registered the case against unknown assailants upon the deceased’s brother, Zahid Qureshi’s complaint. The elder brother of Faisal, Shahid, who is also journalist in Britian had speculated earlier that Faisal was targeted for some of his articles in London Times, one of which was about Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) leader Altaf Hussain fleeing to South Africa. CIA police interrogated his childhood friend, Faisal Hameed Qureshi, who was resident of Bund Road area. Police claimed the accused had admitted to killing his friend for money. The accused revealed upon interrogation that he had lent a bike from Ishtiaq Ahmad, which had been stolen from Jinnah Hospital. The owner of the bike demanded him to par Rs 50,000 against the stolen bike, but the accused could only arrange Rs 20,000. To obtain the rest of the money, he planned to kill his friend who was living alone. According to plan, he killed Faisal Qureshi in his home and escaped after stealing his laptop, mobile phones and wallet. The accused paid Rs 15,000 to bike owner by selling the mobile phones at various shops in Gumti Bazar and Yateem Khana, which CIA have recovered.

Journalist’s murder: Police arrest childhood friend

LAHORE: Police claimed on Friday to have arrested a man for the murder of Faisal Qureshi, a web journalist.

The 28-year-old who worked for The London Post, a London-based news website was found murdered in his Johar Town residence on October 7.

A press release sent by CIA (Organised Crime Cell) said that police have arrested the victim’s childhood friend, Faisal Hameed Qureshi. According to the statement, the suspect had confessed to killing his friend for money.

The FIR registered with the Johar Town police by the victim’s brother Zahid Ahmad Qureshi, who lives in England, had termed the murder “target killing”. He had said that his brother had been receiving threats after The London Post published an article suggesting Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain might flee to South Africa.

The suspect, the police say, told them that he had borrowed a motorcycle from another friend, Ishtiaq Ahmed, to visit a relative at Jinnah Hospital.

The bike was stolen from the car parking, the suspect told the police. Ahmed then demanded that the suspect pay him Rs50,000. The suspect, the police say, paid Rs20,000 to Ahmed and when he fell short, planned to kill the victim.

“I knew he lived alone and that he was from a well to do family,” the suspect is said to have told the police according to the press release.

Police say that the suspect told them that he purchased a knife from Taxali Gate a day before the incident and killed the victim, after which he changed his clothes and disposed of the blood stained clothes and the weapon in the canal near Doctors’ Hospital.

According to the police, the suspect also confessed to stealing the victim’s laptop, wallet and two mobile phones which they say he sold and paid Ahmed another Rs15,000.

Iftikhar Rasool Bajwa, an inspector with the Anti-terrorist Squad toldThe Express Tribune that the suspect had also admitted to withdrawing Rs20,000 using the victim’s ATM card. He said that the suspect had told them that the victim had told him the card’s pin code before he killed him.

The press release said that the police had recovered the victim’s laptop as well as the two mobile phones.

Published in The Express Tribune, December 10th, 2011.

Friend confesses to murdering of e-paper journalist

LAHORE: CIA police Friday arrested an accused who had murdered a journalist of an online newspaper.

The accused, the namesake of victim Faisal Qureshi, was his fast friend. Faisal Qureshi was murdered at midnight on October 7 in mysterious conditions at his residence in Johar Town.

Local police registered a case against unidentified assailants on the complaint of his brother Zahid Qureshi. Elder brother of the deceased, Shahid Qureshi, who is also a journalist and lives in Britain, had speculated that Faisal was targeted for his articles in the newspaper.

CIA police interrogated his childhood friend Faisl Hameed Qureshi, a resident of Bund Road. Police claimed the accused had confessed to the murder for money.

The accused said he had lent a motorcycle from Ishtiaq Ahmad which was stolen from Jinnah Hospital. The owner demanded Rs 50,000 for the stolen motorcycle but he could arrange for only Rs 20,000.

For the rest of the money, he planned to kill his friend who lived alone. According to the plan, he killed Faisal Qureshi in his home and fled after stealing his laptop, mobile phones and wallet. The accused paid Rs 15,000 to the motorcycle owner and sold the mobile phones to shops in Gumti Bazaar and Yateem Khana which CIA police recovered.

Do you think, Mr Subzwari, this ambiguous post will give you a "clean-
chit" as other journalist are terrorized to reject it here...

So, it's a veiled threat... if one doesn't agree with your MQM, you
want to use another "method" to make a point....

Allegations against CPJ as if it's a Pakistani organization.... so
the CPJ report is not sufficient to make things clear but this typical
ambiguous post of a reporter, who works for the "ISI-run newspaper" is
like a decree...!
